The Santa Clarita-based Child & Family Center and 70 other organizations around Los Angeles County are due to split up to $151 million in county-administered funds to curb substance abuse over a three-year contract period.
The county Board of Supervisors is expected to approve the appropriation at its meeting Tuesday.
The Child & Family Center, which provides mental health, behavioral and educational services to children, adults and their families, is in line for $133,692 under one current and one pending county contract.
Some of the regional organizations on the list with a presence in the Santa Clarita Valley include Chabad of California ($419,054), Children’s Hospital Los Angeles ($352,428) and the Salvation Army ($1 82,018).
According to a report from Dr. Jonathan E. Fielding, director of the county’s Public Health Department, the $151 million will be used to provide various substance use disorder services from Oct. 1, 2012. through June 30, 2015. The money comes from federal, state and special government funding sources.
In his report to the supervisors, Fielding says the new agreements replace 168 prior “Alcohol and Drug Services” agreements that expire in 2012 and 2013, and consolidate them into one agreement with each of the 71 agencies, “which will allow for the coordination of client services and improve the … continuum of care (for substance abuse patients).”
The plan would also allow the health department to implement fee-for-service rates tfor adult outpatient and residential substance abuse treatment services.
