The Friends of Santa Clarita Public Library will host an End-Of-Summer Book Sale in September at the Old Town Newhall Library, located at 22704 W. 9th Street, Newhall.
“By donating books, the community’s generosity allows the Friends of Santa Clarita Public Library to hold a huge book sale for residents to explore, in addition to their daily book store sales,” said Mayor Frank Ferry.
Over 20,000 items will be sold, from the latest fiction to collectible out-of-print books, and all of the proceeds will benefit the Santa Clarita Public Library. Sale dates and times include:

* Friday, Sept. 7, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Santa Clarita Educators Day, a special time for our educators to shop exclusively.

The Friends of Santa Clarita Public Library are an active group of Santa Clarita residents who volunteer, advocate and fundraise to meet the needs of the Santa Clarita Public Library. One of its most successful efforts is the annual Summer Reading Program, which provides funds for new materials while financially supporting programming for children, families and adults throughout the year.
This past summer, the Friends of the Library held many events as part of the Summer Reading program, which drew large numbers of residents. Some of the stats for the summer 2012 included 5,184 people attended 67 events at the libraries and outreach sites, 816 elementary students reading 5,371 books, 171 teens reading 345 books, 145 adults reading 334 books, and 63 volunteers donated 1,223 hours.
In addition to the End-Of-Summer Book Sale, the Santa Clarita Public Library is gearing up for the opening of the new Old Town Newhall Library at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012. The new, state-of-the-art, 30,000 square foot Old Town Newhall Library includes a children’s library, teen room, over 100 public use computers, a fireplace reading room, community meeting areas, outdoor courtyard and much more. There will be a total book and media capacity of more than 135,000 items accessible for the public to enjoy on a daily basis.
