Derek Lewis scored on a touchdown run in the first quarter and the Santa Clarita Christian Cardinals never looked back as they defeated the Vasquez Mustangs 42-0 in a non-league contest at Harry Welch Stadium Friday night.
Lewis finished with 133 yards rushing and two touchdowns. The 6-foot, 205-pound junior has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
Cardinals quarterback Jonathan Saavedra completed 7 of 13 passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
SCCS led 14-0 at the half, 21-0 going into the fourth quarter.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season’s game between these two teams, which the Mustangs took, 44-6.
The loss was the fourth in a row for Vasquez.
In a non-conference game next week Santa Clarita Christian (2-2) takes on Keppel, and Vasquez (0-4) will go up against Boron in a Desert Mountain game
