The College of the Canyons women soccer team played to a scoreless tie against Santa Monica College in the Western State Conference opener for both teams.
The COC women are undefeated at 6-0-2 and ranked No. 6 in the NSCAA Junior College Division III national poll.
It was the first time the Lady Cougars were shut out this season.
The COC men’s soccer team tied Citrus College, 0-0, and recorded their fourth draw of the season. The Cougars have a 2-3-4 record.
The Master’s College women’s soccer team beat Biola, 2-1, in overtime. Shea Richards scored both goals for the Lady Mustangs, ranked No. 23 in the NAIA.
Her first goal gave The Master’s College a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. She scored the game-winner in the 92nd minute.
Gia Loza assisted on Richards’ second goal off a corner kick.
In college golf, the College of the Canyons women’s team won the Western State Conference tournament at Stockdale Country Club by nine strokes over Glendale College.
COC shot 325 as a team and improved to 13-3 overall. Kris Grimes shot the low round of the tournament, an even-par 72.
In college volleyball, The Master’s College women upset Westmont in four games in a Golden State Athletic Conference match.
Sam Dougherty had a match-high 29 kills for The Master’s College, ranked No. 13 in the NAIA. Westmont, the No. 5 team in the NAIA, won the first game, but lost the next three.
In high school volleyball, the Golden Valley girls beat Rio Mesa in four games to win their third match of the season.
Katie Nicholson had 21 kills for Golden Valley.
In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the Padres, 2-1, and saw their slim playoff hopes fade. The Dodgers are 4 ½ games out of a wild-card spot with eight games to play.
