The Hart School District has released its Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) on the proposed hybrid site for Castaic area high school. The report is projected to be submitted to the Hart School Board for consideration and potential certification at the Oct. 17, 2012 regular school board meeting. The meeting will be held in the Hart School District boardroom at 21515 Centre Pointe Pkwy in Santa Clarita.

The projected opening of Castaic area high school is August 2015, to ninth graders only, then adding agrade each year until grades 9-12 are on campus. Local voters overwhelmingly supported Measure SA, a $300 million bond measure in 2008, which in part will pay for acquisition and construction of the school site.
“We are committed to building a high-quality, comprehensive high school in Castaic to serve the community,” Superintendent Rob Challinor said. “Population projections and home building plans for the Castaic and Val Verde areas show a need for a high school in the area in the future and building it now in anticipation of this growth is financially prudent, good for the area economy and will well serve families in the short term, as well.”

I have never seen a more irresponsible group of people as the one’s on the Hart board. Their bond was approved because they lied and said that they had a site in the industrial center – which they could have taken through eminent domain. There is also a flat site on the 126 between Commerce and the Old Road with good access that they could use and would have very little impact on the industrial center and yet they have wasted a ton of money chasing unsuitable sites. The bond was also supposed to be for the new Castaic High School and now they are asking for more money because they used the bond money for other things and now they’re short again. Our city leaders need to audit the Hart School boards finances.
