SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons women’s soccer team has earned a No. 2 seed in the California Community College Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Southern Regional Playoffs and will host the winner of the No. 15 East Los Angeles College/No. 18 Long Beach City College match up at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, in Cougar Stadium.
East L.A. and Long Beach will play on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. in one-of-two play-in games.
The Cougars (17-0-4, 11-0-4) finished in first place in the Western State Conference, South, earning the program’s second consecutive title and the second for head coach Justin Lundin.
East L.A. (8-8-5, 6-5-3), the No. 15 seed, finished in sixth place in the South Coast Conference.
No. 18 Long Beach (11-5-4, 7-3-4), also from the South Coast Conference, completed the regular season in third place.
This is the seventh time that the women’s soccer program has made the post season since the program was established in 1998. Former head coach Phil Marcellin led his team to the playoffs five times. This is the second time that Lundin will participate in the playoffs.
The winner of Saturday’s match up will take on the victor of the No. 7 Ventura College/No. 10 Citrus College seed pairing and will play on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
Mount San Antonio College will play host to this year’s men’s and women’s soccer state championship, being held Nov. 30-Dec. 2.
Tickets for the event can only be bought at the gate. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students with identification, staff, children under 12 and seniors over 60.
