staygreen_logoHydroPoint Data Systems Inc., the proven leader in Smart Water Management Solutions, announced Monday that Fair Oaks Ranch Neighborhood Homeowners Association and Stay Green Inc. saved more than 2 million gallons of water, reducing outdoor water consumption 18 percent within the first 12 months after WeatherTRAK Smart Water Manager Solutions were installed.

Fair Oaks Ranch Neighborhood HOA, a community of single-family residences by Pardee Homes, has partnered with Stay Green since 2004 to create healthy, sustainable landscapes across the neighborhood’s parks and common areas. In 2011, Stay Green updated irrigation systems with WeatherTRAK Smart Irrigation Controllers and centralized control.

“The WeatherTRAK irrigation technology created immediate dollar savings and true value for our community,” said Board President Max Hobbs. “Fair Oaks Ranch Neighborhood HOA significantly reduced water bills in 2012. Despite continued water rate increases, we did not have to increase association dues for homeowners this year and we were able to re-apply funds to bigger landscape improvement projects, achieving greater water efficiency and long-term environmental benefits. ”

Wanting to eliminate harmful runoff, hardscape damage and any excess water waste, Stay Green installed six WeatherTRAK ET Pro2 controllers in 2011 on the community’s highest water use areas with expansive turf, mixed shrubs and slope areas to optimize project payback and return on investment (ROI).

The WeatherTRAK Smart Water Manager Solutions integrate site-specific, daily wireless evapotranspiration (ET) weather data and programmable parameters for plant, soil and sprinkler types with WeatherTRAK on-site controllers to automate irrigation schedules and deliver precise water requirements for each zone of the landscape. Stay Green then uses WeatherTRAK Central cloud-based monitoring and mobile control to keep track of alerts and system performance and address water leaks or other system issues that may arise.

Using the water bill savings generated by the pilot with WeatherTRAK controllers, Fair Oaks Ranch Neighborhood HOA replaced 503 sprinkler nozzles with pop-up, pressure-regulated spray heads to further enhance irrigation efficiency at the community’s park areas. The Castaic Lake Water Agency and the Santa Clarita Water division recognized the community’s accomplishments with a rebate check. Sustainable savings from the spray heads and the WeatherTRAK controller technology upgrades continue to fund future landscape and infrastructure improvements.

“Stay Green presented the WeatherTRAK Solution to the Board as a proven smart water management solution that consistently delivers superior performance and reliable results,” said Grant Clack, operations manager at Stay Green. “Replacing old-school timers with WeatherTRAK Central control and 24/7 visibility allows our team to monitor irrigation schedules and alert notifications from the web, Smartphone or any mobile device. Stay Green is able to work more efficiently and respond quickly to any changes in site conditions. By reducing the time spent making manual changes and adjustments to irrigation in the field, our team remains focused on plant health and landscape appearance.”

Innovative tools like WeatherTRAK and related best practices have helped Stay Green earn three trophy awards from the California Landscape Contractors Association for outstanding achievements in water management, landscape health and quality workmanship with clients in commercial markets and apartment, condo and townhome communities.

Sure they’re saving money. Stay Green should be called “Stay Brown” or “Stay Grey.” Just keep dumping those wood chips! Most homeowners HATE what they did to the landscaping in our community. I’m sure a few kick backs are involved somewhere.
