Two Santa Clarita men were taken into custody Sunday after being involved in a hit and run on the northbound I-5 and leading deputies on a short pursuit in Newhall, both by car and on foot.
Alberto Gomez was traveling northbound on the I-5 when he lost control of his Jeep Liberty and collided with a Jeep Grand Cherokee around 9 p.m., causing it to spin out of control and land in the shoulder.
The passengers of the Grand Cherokee were extricated by the Los Angeles City Fire Department, and one passenger was treated at the scene and transported to Holy Cross.
After Gomez fled the scene and returned to his home in Newhall, California Highway Patrol officers tried to apprehend him, but he sped away, hitting one patrol car. After a short pursuit, Gomez bailed out of the car and was later found hiding in a dumpster.
He and his passenger, Rene Galvan, were arrested. Gomez was transported to the Foothill Los Angeles Police Department. Galvan was transported to the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station. Both were booked as charged.
