Deputies arrested three suspects Tuesday morning in Valencia following a short pursuit that began after a burglary was reported in Saugus.
The driver of the car in the pursuit is believed to be Jazmin Mendoza, 21, of Los Angeles. Oscar Mendoza, 20, of Palmdale, and Matthew Jackson, 19, of Palmdale, were also in the vehicle, said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The three suspects are being charged with burglary charges, and Jazmin Mendoza is expected to be charged with evading arrest, officials said.
A short deputy pursuit began around 10:30 a.m. in Saugus near Bouquet Canyon Road and Cinema Drive.
The three suspects reportedly put a safe into a gold Honda Accord and then fled the scene of the burglary.
Later, after deputies recovered the car, they found a safe in the vehicle.
The pursuit ended shortly after 11 a.m. at Westfield Valencia Town Center mall parking lot. Deputies stopped the pursuit because they felt it was no longer afe due to traffic conditions.
The driver of the Accord is also thought to be involved in a hit-and-run collision after deputies stopped active pursuit of the vehicle. The collision was reported at Valencia Boulevard and Creekside Road.
“One of them was caught in the wash, the river bed in between Bridgeport Elementary and the dealerships,” said Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Deputies chased the suspects through residential neighborhoods, including nearby Bridgeport Elementary, which was put on lockdown while deputies looked for the suspects.
A man and woman ran through the Whole Foods parking lot, through the paseos. Deputies searched the area and found the suspect.
Deputies told Bridgeport officials around 11:15 a.m. that a man and a woman were in custody, and the school was no longer considered in “lockdown,” according to school officials.
Three individuals reportedly ran from the vehicle near there, but were caught by deputies.
The gold Honda Accord with a black bumper was sighted outside Sears department store, according to witnesses.
