The Real Side | Commentary by Joe Messina
| Monday, Jul 29, 2013

joemessinamugIn 2006, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama declared that he had “inhaled; that was the point.” In a moment of total, unadulterated truth, the now-president admitted to doing something illegal. Nonetheless, he told the truth and admitted to it – something it seems he has not been able to do in at least five years.

The president said this past week in several campaign-like speeches that Washington has taken its eye off the ball. It is obsessed with phony scandals. Did he really say that? Phony scandals?

Now, look. We can have two sides of the aisle. We can have different viewpoints on what went down. But you can’t have different facts on the same issue. I have to believe my friends on the left haven’t chugged so much Kool-Aid or inhaled so much of the funny weed that they won’t admit the truth.

Which “phony scandal” is he referring to? Benghazi? The one where several military brass have been moved or shifted around, and witnesses to the event aren’t allowed to speak? Where they have had more than a year to produce reports on what took place and have received basically nothing?

Or is it the “phony scandal” involving the IRS where two rogue agents out of Cincinnati decided “on their own” to push back on a “few” conservative groups? Then, as the situation heats up, the two rogue agents come forward, refusing to be thrown under the bus and divulge that the direction actually came from Washington. Wasn’t there a memo encouraging agents to be on the lookout for groups with names using words like “tea party,” “patriot” or “9/12” that criticize how the country is being run? If that’s not a scandal, then it must be just standard operating procedure for you, Mr. President.

Or is it the Operation Fast and Furious scandal, an ATF program intended to track weapons bought in the U.S. and “walked” into Mexico? Unfortunately, the ATF lost track of hundreds of firearms, some of which were used to kill a U.S. border agent and God knows how many Mexican citizens. And again, this “phony scandal” was back in the news July 5 when the Los Angeles Times reported that “a high-powered rifle from Fast and Furious was used to kill a Mexican police chief in the state of Jalisco earlier this year, according to internal Department of Justice records.” To stop further investigation of the program, Obama issued an executive order. Why? If it’s a phony scandal, then nothing would be found, Mr. President.

Or is it Obamacare? Is it a scandal when the president says, “Nothing will change for you, and it won’t cost you one dime more or add one dime to the deficit” – but there’s no shred of truth in it? The GAO now says it will cost the average family nearly $2,000 per year more in health care costs. Additionally, most companies report they will be canceling their insurance carriers’ policies and replacing with government policies, moving us closer to that single-payer system the Democrats want so badly. And if you think it won’t add one dime to the deficit … really?

Then there are the not-so-well-known “phony scandals,” like the green energy mess. This administration has made billions in green energy loans and grants, only to watch the money and jobs go overseas. For example: The manufacturer (owned by a Chinese company) that was given more than $360 million to open a plant in the U.S. to make the battery for the Chevy Volt closed down without producing even one battery for use. Why? Partly due to regulations, and partly because it was simply cheaper to produce and import from overseas.

No one with an IQ above a single digit can say there is not some semblance of truth in each of these “phony scandals.” This president and his staff have spit in the eye of our founding fathers and disregarding many of the truths that made this a great nation, while sweeping the truth under the rug and attempting to convince the American public that what they are doing is what’s best for all of us.

Mr. President, it’s time to exhale, allow the fog to lift, and get this country back on track to being the strongest nation in the world. Richard Nixon’s crimes were petty larceny compared to the theft you have perpetrated on this country.

Oh and once, just once, I would love to hear you say you love this country and are proud of its accomplishments around the globe.

  1. Greyling says:

Not a word of truth in these manufactured scandals.

    This is the real scandal:

Today, a tape was released from Groundswell, the extreme rightwing fringe group run by Ginni Thomas, wife of Justice Clarence Thomas, revealing how the group approached GOP leaders, including Rep. Darrell Issa and House Speaker John Boehner, to get them to gin up Benghazi and other faux scandals to obstruct and defeat Obama, or lose donors.
    http://crooksandliars.com/karoli/groundswell-group-plotted-scandals-congress

This is a very organized effort by the extreme rightwing fringe to undermine the president and democracy, and deny civil rights to Americans.
    http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2013/07/groundswell-rightwing-group-ginni-thomas

No doubt behind Groundswell we’ll find the Christian Brotherhood, our very own American Taliban, whose talking points are often repeated by Joe Messina here.

You can read all about the planned Christian takeover here:
    http://www.religioustolerance.org/reconstr.htm
    http://chalcedon.edu/topics/christian-reconstruction/
    http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-report/browse-all-issues/2005/winter/casting-stones

The Chalcedon Group is considered a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center who tracks such activities.
    http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-report/browse-all-issues/2005/spring/a-mighty-army#4

Clearly this has nothing to do with Christ. It’s a fascist power grab. We all know how that turns out, but in the meantime they can do, and have done already, a great deal of damage to democracy and the American people.

The other real scandal here is the offensive and foul rightwing code Messina used to describe Obama as a pot-smoking president too high to do his job. Of course it’s another fake “scandal” created by the right. One of the ugliest and most hateful ones yet.

    • Joe Messina says:

How do you turn around in that little world of yours, there is no truth in any of the scandals, ALL the quotes you have come from left wing sites, give me a break… Christian Brotherhood, Who have they killed, Im sorry? didn’t hear you, because you have nothing… I usually don’t even reply to these but you disgust me sir… How dare you sanction the killings of those people in Benghazi by glossing over what was done… Just Amazing!

      • Greyling says:

        Because Benghazi!

How do you turn around in that tiny rightwing echo chamber of yours?

Left wing sites? No, they are actual journalistic sites. They just look leftwing through your distorted rightwing vision.

Had you half the concern for the 98 people who died in the 13, count ’em, THIRTEEN embassy attacks under Bush I might be able to take you a just a little bit seriously.
        http://thedailybanter.com/2013/05/13-benghazis-that-occurred-on-bushs-watch-without-a-peep-from-fox-news/

If you had any thought about the 44 attacks on U.S. diplomatic missions in 52 years:
        http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-2-132602-US-diplomatic-missions-attacked-at–least-44-times-in-52-years

And for the 5,000+ American soldiers who have died in the illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, then maybe, just maybe, you could be taken somewhat seriously.

        Oh, the hypocrisy.
        http://www.juancole.com/2013/05/republican-mongering-benghazi.html

Because you don’t care one hoot who died in Benghazi. You don’t care who dies under a conservative president.

You only care about attacking a black Democratic president you take great glee in smearing with your drug-addict accusations and lies about fake scandals from your bully pulpit, where you use the deaths of four people to peddle your manufactured outrage porn.

You are the one who is disgusting.

        • Joe Messina says:

Feel free to call in to the show and challenge, I am not going back and forth here.. You are wrong on so many levels…. NO president has committed this Country like Obama with the exception of Carter..

          • Greyling says:

Thanks for the invite to call your radio show, Joe Messina, but I would no more try to have a discussion with you on the radio, or “challenge,” “back and forth” as you call it, than I would Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity.

I’ve listened to your show, and it would be an exercise in futility. I’m just not into bashing President Obama and liberals or scandal-mongering.

But I’ll bet Limbaugh and Ginni Thomas are real proud of you.

And I don’t know what you mean by “committed this Country,” but it’s clear these “scandals” are being ginned up because of the failure of the right to make Obama a one-term president.

For example, the Benghazi “scandal” is a nifty way to try to prevent Hillary Clinton from making a 2016 presidential run AND to try to set the stage to impeach Obama. It’s like a bad ’90s flashback.

Because it’s easier to try to divert people’s attention from real issues with fake scandals that further the rightwing fringe’s agenda, than do the hard work of democracy of, by and for all the people.

          • Dec1773 says:

Yeah – all of these “fake” scandals like your station CNN broke today:
“Sources now tell CNN dozens of people working for the CIA were on the ground that night, and that the agency is going to great lengths to make sure whatever it was doing, remains a secret.”

            The above is from: http://thelead.blogs.cnn.com/2013/08/01/exclusive-dozens-of-cia-operatives-on-the-ground-during-benghazi-attack/

OUCH – that darn truth always hurts!

          • Greyling says:

            Well, duh.

First, everyone knows the CIA was in Benghazi that night. Everyone paying attention to real news knows that.

            http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/02/world/africa/cia-played-major-defensive-role-in-libya-attack.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

            http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/an-alternative-explanation-for-the-benghazi-talking-points-bureaucratic-knife-fight/2013/05/10/22a8df5c-b98d-11e2-b94c-b684dda07add_blog.html

Second, most of the ones jumping up and down over this “breaking news” are the rightwing “media” like Fox, Breitbart, NewsMax, PJ Media, etc., etc., etc.

Because third, the CIA was protecting itself, not the White House.

Of course, “The CIA can’t admit their role because it compromises the cover of the facility, and that’s the most important thing,” said Bob Baer, who spent two decades as a field officer in the CIA. “You can never compromise cover.”

Unless you are rightwingers with personal political agendas who out CIA agents routinely for brownie points. Valerie Plame, anyone?

In their zeal to attack our black president and potential future female president, rightwingers are not above exploiting the deaths of four people they don’t really give a damn about, and putting important operations in jeopardy to score some political points and potentially get even more people killed.

  2. Kevin D. Korenthal says:

It’s a desecration of the graves of those 4 dead Americans when Democrats, especially the people who have allowed this terrorist crime to go unpunished call it a fake scandal.

    • Greyling says:

You know what a real desecration of graves is? No WMDs in Iraq and 4800+ dead American soldiers, dead for personal political gain. But Bush is one of your guys, so that must make it okay.

Gosh, I’m old enough to remember when criticizing a president after a terrorist attack was considered treason.

Now it’s okay to manufacture scandals and conspiracies to try to gin up enough outrage to impeach a black Democratic president, and to attack a potential presidental candidate, Hillary Clinton. Damn the consequences of outing CIA covert operations, or the dead and wounded.

It’s really is an ugly flashback to the ’90s when you lot did it before.

      • Kevin D. Korenthal says:

You’re mistaken. Programs and individual instances of WMD have been found all over Iraq since the 2003 invasion. What was not found was the red herring and cartoonish “stockpiles” that the media meme said would be there lest our entire reason for invading became unjustified. The fact that you are not aware of the WMD that was found in Iraq proves my point that most Democrats are low-information voters and take as gospel that which the media and the leaders of the Democrat Party tell them. Do an internet search for the following key words: “WMD Found In Iraq” as well as “WMD Transported To Syria” then do any variation of search you’d like in a vain attempt to discredit the findings.

        • Greyling says:

That is beyond a flat-out lie. That’s a rightwing conspiracy theory. Shame on you.

There is NO evidence to support your claim.

There were no WMDs in Iraq: http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/world/iraq/2004-10-06-wmd_x.htm

Period. Nobody moved the mythical WMDs to Syria at any time, either: http://www.nbcnews.com/id/6834079/#.UiDxHD-An66

They were destroyed in 1991: https://www.cia.gov/library/reports/general-reports-1/iraq_wmd_2004/chap5.html

The entire world knows that the Bush Admin lied about WMDs in Iraq.

All except the low-information, willfully ignorant voters from the rightwing fever swamp.

          • Kevin D. Korenthal says:

I just showed you where links discussing the Wikileaks revelations can be found. And the moved to Syria claims have NEVER BEEN DISCREDITED. You can lead a liberal to facts but you can’t force them to acknowledge that everything they based their hatred of George W. Bush on has either been discredited or co-opted by Barack Obama. Sucks to be you dude!

          • Greyling says:

The mythical move of WMDs to Syria HAS BEEN DISCREDITED. Just as the existence of the WMDS has been discredited. There is no evidence to support your claims.

I just gave you actual links to reliable sources right in my reply! Talk about willful ignorance.

Also, you are delusional. Re-read your own comment. You showed me no links whatsoever, nor did you mention Wikileaks, just what strings to Google. You sent me on a wild goose chase around the Internet because there are no reliable sources to support your clearly false claims.

Where are your links to prove your case? Post them, so we can see your sources and check their credibility.

And like Fox News and weaselzippers.us, Wikileaks doesn’t count. Funny how the far left Libertarians like Julian Assange have joined forces with the rightwing fringe. They both hate President Obama so much they’d do anything to discredit him, including manufacturing blatant lies and feverish conspiracy theories, knowing the irrational Obama-haters left and right will swallow it hook, line and sinker.

          • Kevin D. Korenthal says:

I don’t tell people what links to look at. Do the research yourself jerk. The Wikileaks affair revealed much more about the success of the WMD hunt in Iraq. Do the search. You will find that in fact our incompetent government did not report what was found, probably because it did not suit the narrative that you just parroted.

To be honest, you show your intellectual dishonesty in tying the legitimacy of the war in Iraq to WMD. Every nation in the know said there was WMD, including the UN. Now do you think all of these folks were misleading us into war too? I really don’t know if you a stupid or corrupt, but either way you are wrong.

Go do the search. I know you haven’t done it. ALl you have are the links that your friends at the DNC gave you to share! HAHAHAHA!!!!

          • Greyling says:

The U.N. weapons inspectors said there were no WMDs in Iraq.
“1,625 UN and US inspectors spent two years searching 1,700 sites at a
cost of more than $1bn. Yesterday they delivered their verdict”
            http://www.theguardian.com/world/2004/oct/07/usa.iraq1

There were no WMDs in Iraq. No WMDs were moved to Syria. Those are indisputable facts.

I am not afraid to post links to my research so everyone can see for themselves where I get my information. That is how it works. You want credibility? Post your links.

And it was your side that tied WMDs in Iraq to the war, not mine.

You speak of the public trust, but it’s hard to trust someone who lies so completely and compulsively thinking no one will find them out. But you have a P.R. firm, so no wonder.

The actual facts simply don’t fit your narrative. Calling me a jerk, and stupid and corrupt and using talking points instead of my own research, while refusing to supply the sources that support your position is irrational, in keeping with your position. There is nothing anyone can do for you at this point.

I am very sorry for you.

          • Kevin D. Korenthal says:

I rather think allowing people to do the research themselves teaches them to be less reliant on the hyperlinks in blogposts from The Daily Koz and “reputable blogs” like that. Here is one of the links to the information. I cant believe you didn’t just go and search this yourself. http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2010/10/wikileaks-show-wmd-hunt-continued-in-iraq-with-surprising-results/

          • Greyling says:

Thank you, I appreciate you providing that link. I read the article, and the comments.

There were no WMDs in Iraq. This article proves that. What was found was the capability. Well, doy. We knew that. We also knew Saddam would never attempt to build WMDs again. WMDs are WMDs defined by military specifications, not by media outlets. What was found were not WMDs by any definition, no matter how much you want it to be true.

You are so fond of Wikileaks, here is one leaked PlusD memo, where Iraq warns about fabricated WMD evidence right before Secretary Powell gave his speech at the U.N. in Feb 2003:
            http://www.politicususa.com/2013/04/10/wikileaks-cable-2003-iraq-takes-issue-bush-administrations-wmd-claims.html

I didn’t include any Wired articles in my links because I don’t think they are that credible, but as you do, here is one I found earlier today: http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2012/07/syria-iraq-wmd-meme/

Good night, Mr. Korenthal, and good luck.

          • Kevin D. Korenthal says:

So who was not in on the plan to fabricate Saddams arsenal? Or were there weapons but they were desteoyed? How come evidence of that destruction was never found? Iraq had a lot of weapons and likely did not want an invasion to be justified by them being found, especially since Saddam had every reason to believe he could again beat the US.

          • Kevin D. Korenthal says:

Oh and the CIA was keeping track of Iraq and it’s WMD. SO if they were fooled, well, that is not on Bush, that’s on the career spies. https://www.cia.gov/library/reports/general-reports-1/iraq_wmd/Iraq_Oct_2002.htm

          • Greyling says:

I gave you the updated link from 2004 on this. Here it is again:

            https://www.cia.gov/library/reports/general-reports-1/iraq_wmd_2004/chap5.html

          • Kevin D. Korenthal says:

So the CIA got it wrong?

          • Kevin D. Korenthal says:

This update confirms that iraq maintained the chemicals and engineers necessary to launch weapons within a few month. Given the limited dhelf life of assembled weapons, this was prudent.

  3. Kevin D. Korenthal says:

CNN has the story on Jake Tappers page. Feel free to be embarrassed by the shocking facts coming to light.

      • Kevin D. Korenthal says:

I refer to the lengths that the Obama Administration is going to silence survivors of the attack. And what prey-tell were so many CIA agents doing in Benghazi?

But going back to my original premise, we both agree that Watergate was a scandal even though no American citizens were murdered by terrorists. If Watergate rises to the level that it did, Benghazi is at least with a special prosecutor to investigate. If this had happened under Bush’s watch, you’d be demanding it.

        • Greyling says:

Oh, for crying out loud, the Obama Administration is NOT silencing “survivors” of the attack on Benghazi. You rightwing fringers have completely lost your minds.

And no, we don’t “both agree” to your twisted strawman claims about Watergate.

I’m old enough to remember the actual Watergate scandal and the facts. Benghazi is not the same at all, and to make that claim is offensive.

Rewriting history to support your delusional claims is just ugly.

As John Dean said, “I think falsely charging somebody with a Watergate type activity is somewhat Nixonian.”

          • Kevin D. Korenthal says:

Someone needs to take that rightwing fringe media organization, CNN to task for reporting.

You seriously act like Democrats are incapable of committing scandalous acts. When in faxt scandle is the default of Democrat activity as the current headlines show. But I understand that the future of the Dim Party rests on sroppingbthese scandals from surfacing. You’re just doing your best to help out.

          • Greyling says:

            R.I.P. irony.
