The City of Santa Clarita announces a call to artists for a public art opportunity to create a new, outdoor piece for the Santa Clarita Public Library. Through a selection process, an artist or a team of artists will be selected to create and install artwork for the entrance of the Valencia Library. The deadline for interested artists is Friday, August 9, 2013.
“Libraries are not only places for education and learning, but also places to find new worlds in books,” said Mayor Bob Kellar. “The new outdoor artwork will be on display in a highly visible area and is an opportunity for artists to inspire library visitors to imagine, dream and discover something new at the Santa Clarita Public Library.”
The proposed design must include a theme that celebrates the library and represents what it symbolizes including: community, vibrancy, education, exploration, technology, history, and fun. All artwork must have a strong public appeal and be an original piece fabricated in a durable, low maintenance material, which can withstand heat.
Interested artists can submit a design and materials to CallForEntry.org. Applications must include a letter explaining the artist’s interest in the project, a current resume of the artist and/or each team member, and three examples of past work.
