This fall, College of the Canyons, in partnership with The Signal and KHTS AM 1220 will host the college’s fall Job & Career Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 9, to provide local job seekers with employment opportunities in various industries and career fields.
The fair, which is free and open to the public, will feature a variety of employers seeking to fill entry, middle and upper level employment opportunities as well as a virtual job fair corner.
The fair’s virtual corner, sponsored by KHTS, will allow job seekers to apply to jobs with companies that could not attend the fair in person.
“This will be a great way to increase the opportunities for job seekers, all at one event,” said Anthony Michaelides, director of career services at the college. “We are pleased to partner with The Signal and KHTS in making this job fair available to the community.”
The virtual corner will be equipped with six computers and a KHTS staff member to assist job seekers through the application process.
“This is a terrific opportunity for employers who don’t have the resources to spend a day physically at the job fair,” said Carl Goldman, KHTS co-owner. “Employers can still receive applications and resumes from many qualified local applicants. KHTS will have our representatives there to assist applicants and to facilitate getting the proper candidates to employers.”
Job Fair attendees are encouraged to identify the companies that will be present at the fair, go to their web site to view available employment opportunities and apply online.
“You have to approach the fair with a goal in mind and a plan in hand,” said Michaelides. “Job fairs are no longer an event you simply show up and expect employers to fight over you. You have to be proactive in approaching each employer with an effective introduction and opening line, and have several prepared questions that will engage the company representative enough to hold their attention.”
The job fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the East Gym (EPEK) at the college’s Valencia campus.
The COC Career Center will also be hosting the workshop “Preparing for the Job Fair” from noon to 1 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, in the college’s Student Center, Room PDR-3, located on the Valencia campus.
In the weeks leading up to the job fair, the college’s Career Center will host a pair of resume rallies for students to have their resumes critiqued and updated, free of charge.
The COC Resume Rally events will be held at the following dates/times:
* 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Valencia campus (staff dining room in the Student Center)
* 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Canyon Country campus (Quad 1, Bldg. B).
