This week’s SCVTV and Wendy’s of Santa Clarita Student Athlete of the Week is Kyle Edwards from Golden Valley football. Kyle has a 3.8 GPA and scored 1380 on the SAT. His motivation for classroom success comes from a higher calling.
“I’m a Christian, so everything I do I try to honor Jesus Christ with my life,” Kyle said. “So that’s the most important thing. Also, you’ve got to get to college so that’s really why it’s important to me. At the end of the day, if you don’t have good grades you don’t have much.”
As a 6-5, 240-pound offensive lineman, many college football programs see the potential with Kyle as a college football player. The one school he likes most is Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo.
“I want to be a mechanical engineer up there and they have a really good mechanical engineering program, one of the best in the nation,” he said. “I went up there and visited this summer and I love the coaches on the football team and I like the feeling overall up there.”
Why mechanical engineering?
“The creativity,” Kyle said. “I’m really into designing different things and I think I’m really good at figuring out the way different mechanisms work. Around the house I’m really good at fixings things for my parents. So I think that’s a good field for me to be going into.”
In addition to his Christian Faith, Kyle looks at home as well as at school to find his inspiration.
“I want to make my parents proud and I want to make my family proud,” her said. “Obviously I love the teachers at Golden Valley. I hear bad things about Golden Valley all the time. I’ve been going here for four years. None of them are true. I love Golden Valley and pretty much all my teachers here I’ve loved. Each teacher is an inspiration to me to get good grades.”
Congratulations to Kyle Edwards of Golden Valley High School, the SCVTV and Wendy’s of Santa Clarita Student Athlete of the Week.
