The No. 4-seed College of the Canyons was tripped up by No. 5 San Diego Miramar 1-0 on Tuesday night in the second round of the regional playoffs at Cougar Stadium.
With the loss, the Cougars fall to 17-2-4 on the season and for the third consecutive year, COC is knocked out of the post season in the second round.
San Diego Miramar earned a penalty kick in the 51st minute after a Jets player was tripped up in the box. Leading Jets goal scorer Ninfa Ramirez was able to take advantage of the foul in the box and put away the only goal of the game.
Canyons put pressure on San Diego Miramar in the final 15 minutes with four shots, but the Jets’ defense stayed solid.
The Cougars put up 12 shots in the match, compared to San Diego Miramar’s 14. Sophomore Allie Leon led the team with three shots and Anabell Gonzalez, Jennifer Mendez and Yesenia Avilez posted two shots each. Koury had four saves in the losing effort.
