[KHTS] – Volunteers from Castaic Lions Club, Santa Clarita Lions Club and William S. Hart Union High School District are hosting Thursday a Thanksgiving meal at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center.
The annual Thanksgiving meal has been a tradition for volunteers and senior center members that gives senior citizens a place to spend their afternoon and enjoy the company of others, according to Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center employees.
Volunteers from the Lions Clubs and the William S. Hart School District will arrive at 3 a.m. to begin preparing the Thanksgiving Day lunch.
Senior Center doors open at 10 a.m. to senior citizens.
Beverages and hors d’oeuvres will be served prior to the 11 a.m. meal.
Since many of the senior citizens rely on the meals provided by volunteers, everyone in attendance or scheduled for a home delivery will receive two Thanksgiving meals due to the Friday closure of the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center.
Volunteers expect to have more than 400 people in attendance for the meal and make deliveries to an additional 400 homes making a grand total of more than 1600 Thanksgiving Day meals.
Thanksgiving Day meals are free and limited to senior citizens only.
Volunteers have had plenty of food in the past, but attendees are encouraged to call and reserve a spot at 661-259-9444 to ensure volunteers make enough meals for everyone.
