[KHTS] – A man suspected of stealing a roof panel from the Porsche in the fatal crash of Paul Walker and Roger Rodas is in custody, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials.

Jameson Witty, 18, of Tujunga, was booked at Santa Clarita Valley Station with bail set at $20,000.  A second suspects is making arrangements to surrender himself.

He was taken into custody as he was leaving his Tujunga residence Thursday.

Sheriff’s detectives will meet with the Office of the Los Angeles County District Attorney for consideration of filing criminal charges of felony Grand Theft (487(a) CA Penal Code) and Tampering with Evidence (135 CA Penal Code) against both suspects, according to a Sheriff’s Department statement.

A stolen vehicle part was later recovered by sheriff’s detectives serving a search warrant at a residence in Canyon Country. The car part was a red, T-top roof panel to the wrecked 2005 Porsche Carrera GT.

The investigation of the traffic collision wherein Walker and Rodas lost their lives on Saturday, in Santa Clarita is continuing.

At the conclusion of the on-scene traffic investigation Saturday, the wrecked 2005 Porsche Carrera GT was loaded onto a contracted flat-bed tow truck to be transported to the impound yard for further investigation.

The investigation of the traffic collision is ongoing.

A public memorial Sunday for Paul Walker is scheduled for Sunday at noon.

This includes examination of the wrecked vehicle for any further evidence that could help investigators to determine the cause of the collision.

When the tow truck left the scene at about 10 p.m. that night, several vehicles followed it eastbound on Newhall Ranch Road.

At one point the driver of the tow truck stopped at the red light, while headed eastbound on Newhall Ranch Road at McBean Parkway.

A witness saw a male exit a vehicle that was following the tow truck and grab a piece of the wrecked Porsche off the tow truck bed. The male drove away with the stolen vehicle part.

The tow truck driver reported the theft to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, and their investigation yielded two suspects.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station traffic investigators are continuing to document the investigation.

A second suspect in this theft has been identified. The 25-year old suspect is outside the state of California and is in communication with sheriff’s detectives making arrangements to surrender himself.

If you have any information about the theft of the vehicle parts, please call Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s detectives at 661-255-1121. Or if you wish to remain anonymous, call “LA Crime Stoppers” by dialing 800-222-TIPS (8477), texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.
