Michele Jenkins
At its final meeting of the calendar year, the Santa Clarita Community College District Board of Trustees, which governs College of the Canyons, elected a new slate of board officers for 2014, and approved its meeting dates for the upcoming year.
The board voted unanimously for Michele Jenkins to become board president, citing her 29 years of service as a board member at the college as well as her experience in taking part in accreditation evaluations.
Jenkins, who also served as board president in 1988 when the college hired COC Chancellor Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook, will be serving her eighth term as board president.
College of the Canyons will undergo a voluntary review of its accreditation status in 2014, a process that occurs every six years to ensure the institution is offering the highest quality education possible.
“I am honored to be chosen by my colleagues to serve as president of the Board of Trustees,” Jenkins said. “It is a privilege to serve on the board, and provide leadership to the college as it continually expands its service to the community.
I look forward to a great year ahead,” added Jenkins, “as we increase access to students, improve student success and enhance services to our local business community.”
