[NSD] – The Newhall School District will conduct a Parent Summit on Feb. 27 at Wiley Canyon Elementary School.
Sessions are designed to provide information for parents and engage them in an understanding of the important statewide changes that will affect our schools.
As part of the evening, each site has selected a “Volunteer of the Year” to be recognized by the Governing Board.
Parent engagement and education session subjects include:
• Common Core State Standards and the New State Assessment: This spring your children will participate in the pilot of a new state test based on the Common Core State Standards. Tests will be administered on computers. We will have participants take and discuss a test item.
• New State Funding for California: The Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) and Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) will completely change the way California Schools are funded. This new funding model will have a large impact on Newhall’s schools.
• Volunteer Recognition: Each School Site Council has selected a Volunteer of the Year for recognition.
• Revision of the District Mission Statement: Given Common Core Standards, a new state test, the impact of technology on our classrooms, and a new state funding program, we need parent input as we revise the district’s mission statement.
