1986 - COC board votes to allow Argentine cliff swallows to nest forever on sides of buildings [story]

[KHTS] – Albertsons grocery stores have had a presence in the Santa Clarita Valley for more than 25 years, but two of the four local stores will be closing on or around Feb. 20, said an Albertsons spokeswoman on Wednesday.

The Albertsons on The Old Road in Valencia and on Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country will be closing, but the other stores will be unaffected.

The Valencia Albertsons has only been open since 2004, but the Canyon Country location has been there since 1987.

Lilia Rodriguez, external communications and public affairs manager for Albertsons, said that the company periodically evaluates all of its stores.

“These two stores were underperforming,” she said, adding that the lack of performance was linked to a number of factors.

“It’s not in a position for future profitability,” she said.

The Albertsons Human Resources Department is working with labor unions to transfer as many employees as possible to other locations, Rodriguez said, but it is still to early to determine how many or which employees will be transferred.

And she pointed out that while making the decision to close two stores was a difficult one, it “gives us the opportunity to invest in our existing store base.”

Prior to closing, the Valencia and Canyon Country stores will hold a liquidation sale on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

Customers of Sav-On Pharmacy at the two locations will be notified of where to pick up their prescriptions once the stores close.

Rodriguez said that signs will be posted with that information once it becomes available.

Vallarta! I’m fine with that on Soledad. We have a Stater and Vons close. Nice to have something with variety.

  2. Jason Govier Jason Govier says:

Whole paycheck – I mean Whole Foods

  3. So sad. I hope Vallarta and Vons can find a place of employment for the those who will have no job.

  4. John Gilbert John Gilbert says:

just in time for the SCV City Council’s pending “Remodel” via the “Soledad Cyn Rd Business Corridor Master Plan”. 8-)

  5. I wouldn’t mind a Trader Joes for the Soledad store location. Driving from CC to Valencia, isn’t like just a quick drive and that parking lot is so darn crazy.

The Northridge Albertsons closed like over a year ago, so really not a big surprise. Their prices really went up when they stopped the usage of those little savings cards.

  6. MRK says:

Not to split hairs or anything, but Albertson’s has nto been at the Canyon Country location since 1987. It was a Lucky’s up to as recently as 1996.

  7. I think they should move a Trader Joe’s from the Best Buy Shopping center to Old Road. The location they are in now is a madhouse ever since they moved in.

  8. That use to be a luckeys and I’m still upset over that one.

  9. Linda M says:

Sorry but we do not need another Hispanic market. Albertsons on Soledad is extremely convenient for people who don’t drive and for all the seniors who live close by. And with Albertsons closing, Savon will also close, forcing a lot of people to find another pharmacy. Perhaps that CVS on Sierra with the stupidest parking lot ever and the worst pharmacy. I love my Albertsons because it is close. Now I will have to drive further, use more gas, pay more, and try to survive the terrible drivung.

  10. Kim Sloan Kim Sloan says:

Will they put a Stater Bros. or another market to replace this one?

  11. Albertsons is double the price of everyone else!! Way to expensive. The one on van nuys blvd & sherman way closed bout 5 yrs ago & turned into Lucky’s .. They need to bring Lucky’s back up here.

  12. I’d like to see another trader joes

  13. Eli Sandoval Eli Sandoval says:

We need a Vallarta right on the spot…

  14. Alicia Ellen Alicia Ellen says:

    Another trader joes:)

  15. Thats really sad i love the cc been going there since i was in pre k and they still have some of the same people working , very sad

  16. I don’t think we need a Vallarta right there since there’s already the spanish market in the Canyon Center

  17. move trader Joe’s

  18. The trader Joes business model purposely finds smaller locations to keep the “small town market”. A huge anchor location isn’t what they want.

And totally curious ….. many comments refer to “they”. Who is “they” that should be bringing a particular store ?

  19. Nah we need a strip club! Hahaha with it

  20. The Albertsons in Northridge closed last year, and a Smart & Final recently opened in its place.

  21. Shane Greedy Shane Greedy says:

Good! I catch the one on the old road all the time with incorrect pricing..and notifying management and corporate….does nothing! Karma…

  22. Paula Miller Paula Miller says:

It will probably be converted into yet another fitness place…..

  23. Athina Lee Athina Lee says:

    we need another COSTCO

  24. Christy says:

Definitely the one on Soledad should be a Trader Joes. Great location and lots of parking.

  25. Albertsons is very pricey. I only go there for a few items that I cant get anywhere else. Now I have to go to the one in Saugus. :(

  26. Athina lee, apparently a new Costco is going in at magic mountain and the old road at the huge dirt lot.

  27. Hopefully we arent left with two big vacant buildings. Regardless, we need the business in this town to build not close.

  28. Bring back Bristol farms!

  29. Vallarta is going in Canyon Country, Who is going into Castaic? When they closed Sylmar store Food 4 Less took it over.

  30. Oh I’m sure Westridge residents are ecstatic about this. Although they’ve probably learned that the nearby Target has MUCH better prices on grocery items.

  31. Athina Lee Athina Lee says:

@ Bond, i’ve heard that for a long time, hopefully it will happen…. @ Loretta, Who is going into Castaic? They r closing the Ralphs and i heard maybe Rite Aid as well….

  32. They need Vallarta or put in s Winco so much cheaper than any other store.

  33. Michelle Lea Michelle Lea says:

Put in a Winco store much cheaper on groceries

  34. Jay Romick Jay Romick says:

    Winco would be good

  35. Trader Joes in the Westridge center would be great! The TJ on Bouquet should stay. For the folks on that side of town. Convenient.

  36. Wow maybe they can put a sprouts there

  37. Kim Solomon Kim Solomon says:

A Costco in or around the Castaic area would be nice.

  38. walmart taking over

  39. It’s a shame Fresh & Easy stores aren’t here like they are towards San Diego. Also a Smart & Final would be nicer over another Spanish market when one is just down the street already.

  40. anyone who is interested in working from home in box me only if interested in working from home making some real money.this is not a scam

  41. Will Gallant says:

Sorry folks as much as I love Canyon Country stores like Trader Joes or Whole Foods will not replace the ALBERTSONS there.
Area looks depressed economically so my guess would be another dollar type store or Vallarta.
    Being realistic.

  42. No name says:

TJ MAX, or split store in two… Trader Joes please!!! Keep it filled with something middle class not upscale or barrio:)!!!

  43. joe says:

    vallarta like it or not

  44. john wayne says:

    VALLARTA! Thanks!

  45. Brian Hawkins says:

I live here in Santa Claita,CA Since The Pandemic Albertion Supermarket will be Missed. At The moment I am Glad That the Albertson Supermarket is Not Close on Sunset Blvd.
