[KHTS] – With Santa Clarita Public Libraries in Valencia, Canyon Country and downtown Newhall, city officials are now looking at the possibility of a library in Saugus.
The project is still in the preliminary stages and the nature and location of the library will depend on community feedback, said City Spokeswoman Gail Morgan.
City staff are looking at including a site selection process for the proposed library this year’s budget, Morgan said.
The budget for the 2014-15 fiscal year will be adopted by the City Council by the end of June.
Morgan pointed out that this does not mean the council would allocate funding for development or construction in the 2014-15 budget, but the city would be able to begin reaching out to Saugus residents.
The city tries to work each community about new developments they would like to see, she said.
“What we try and do is hear what the community is saying and what they want,” Morgan said.
The community outreach later this year would determine whether residents “even want a library in Saugus, what the best place would be (for) that,” Morgan said. “Each community that we’ve worked with has come up with different things that they want.”
The city is aware that residents are already discussing the idea, Morgan said.
“We have heard comments, and we have heard residents say, ‘Have you considered one in Saugus?’” she said.
No site location or estimated completion date for the library have been determined.

We must be one of the only communities BUILDING libraries. They are disappearing everywhere else. Says great things about us.
We already have 3…. plus 3 college campuses with libraries in them. Use your money more wisely, SCV.
Maybe they need a roundabout instead! ;) Good lord!
Is there one in CC, doesn’t seem to be alot out here.
Why????
