Four College of the Canyons players scored in double figures to help the Cougar basketball team beat Allan Hancock 84-69 on Wednesday night.
After falling behind 4-8 to start the game, Canyons went on a 26-12 run to lead by 10 points with five minutes left in the first half. Despite COC controlling much of the first half, the Bulldogs finished the half on a 12-0 run and only trailed COC 35-32 at the break.
Canyons led by as many as 19 in the second half. The Cougars saw help from the team’s 3-point shooting, as the team knocked down six long-range shots in the second half.
Mathews was the leading scorer, but the Cougars had three others in double digits. Mathews finished with a double-double, scoring 26 points and grabbing 22 rebounds. Sophomore guard Shawn Kolani had 19 points and Nayiri Aslanian contributed 11 points and seven rebounds. Freshman guard Jordan Oster turned in a career high 16 points off the bench as she shot 5-of-7 from the field.
Canyons will travel to L.A. Pierce on Saturday, Feb. 1 for a 3 p.m. contest.
