[KHTS] – Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies have found a woman Saturday in Castaic they believe was illegally soliciting donations door-to-door for Children’s Hospital.

The woman, who was identifying herself as Sirena Sanchez to residents, was allegedly canvassing local residential neighborhoods in recent weeks, claiming that she is collecting donations for Children’s Hospital in order to purchase books, according to a Sheriff’s Station press release.

A Castaic resident contacted Sheriff’s Station deputies regarding a sighting of the woman, whom deputies found near the informant’s residence.

scammer013114“Deputies contacted the woman, and she was cited and released and issued a court date,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The woman was cited for a violation of 11.37.020 of the Los Angeles County code, which is a misdemeanor offense, officials said.

Here’s the listing of the code in question:

A. Peddler’s and Solicitor’s License. No person may peddle or solicit unless such person has a valid peddler’s or solicitor’s license, as applicable, issued by the County of Los Angeles on behalf of the City under Title 5 of this code and Title 7 of the Los Angeles County Code.

The crime is being investigated by the Detective’s Bureau of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, Dubin said, citing that it’s an ongoing investigation.

“The investigation is continuing into the legitimacy of the company that she claimed to work for,” Dubin said.

Anyone with information about these incidents or this person of interest can contact Detective Sgt. J. Anderson at 661-55-1121 or jranders@lasd.org. Submit anonymous tips to LA Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

  41. Sean McLaughlin says:

To the supposed proofreader about use of the word “sighting”– the way the story reads, a resident calling in about a “sighting” resulted in a “citing” by law enforcement. This looks correct to me. I don’t like mispellings either but when something isn’t committed to printed page, I think the rules can be a bit relaxed (webpage blog etc)

  42. because the woman was “sighted” in Castaic, deputies were able to “cite” her. I don’t see an issue or mispelling here! And thanks to the provider of the doorway– name not mentioned to protect the innocent!–drop cam picture for law enforcement to use. I’m all for incorporating cameras in our neighborhood

  43. Dave S says:

I appreciate News items from Castaic. People forget we’re apart of the SCV too. As for the “Criminal”; make her serve work release at the Castaic Animal Shelter for six months and pay back the Community.

  45. Wendy Fonseca says:

On another note, thank you SCVTV for your updates! Great job! :)

  46. Bishop says:

@ Cheryl and Natalie. Lol! You must be related to my wife. You don’t even realize the Sheriff was called because the Castaic resident saw the woman. Sighting. Like when you spot someone. Hey Sheriff, I see this woman going door to door illegally. Sighting. Not citing. That came later lol. Hopefully these two get it. Haha. Probably not.

  47. Jody says:

Yes, the words “sighting” and “citing” were used correctly in this article.

Misuse of words and typos are rampant in the news biz which is now largely run by children who’ve had little experience (aside from college). That’s only the START of so-called “news” the MSM offers us nowadays. God help us all.

  48. sandy says:

Citing/sighted were used correctly. Whew now that that’s been clarified – glad the sighted woman was cited.

  49. I’m not sure it’s the same girl but I had one come to my door last week doing the same exact thing. I didn’t know about the peddlers liscence. I’m going to ask for it from now on that is on the rare chance I open my door for them. This one caught me off guard going out my door.

  50. Will Gallant says:

That’s why I don’t open my front door anymore. So many scammers.
Also hate people pretending to be with Sheriff SCV peddling for donations.
    Hate liars. Hate criminals.
