Rio Hondo College scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning, en route to a 5-1 victory over College of the Canyons in the final game of a home/away series on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Canyons dropped to 3-3 while Rio Hondo improved to 3-2 on the season.
Canyons second baseman Justin Krauskopf had two hits and the Cougar’s lone RBI to lead the team. Left fielder David Oppenheim and first baseman Roberto Ramos were the only other players to notch hits in the loss.

The Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the third inning. Canyons responded in the second half of the inning, following a walk garnered by Nick Vigo. Krauskopf hit a two-out RBI double to left center, allowing Vigo to cross the plate and even the score.
The Roadrunners loaded the bases with one out in the top of the sixth and the Cougars committed a critical miscue, allowing two Rio Hondo runners to score on the error. The following batter singled to right field to give Rio Hondo a 4-1 lead over COC.
Canyons had a chance to score in the bottom of the eighth after two base hits from Krauskopf and Oppenheim, but were stranded at the end of the inning.
Pitcher Chad Bennett was marked with the loss to drop to 0-1, after allowing eight hits and four runs (three earned). Ryan Paramo threw 3.1 innings of relief, giving up one hit and one run, while striking out two.
The Cougars will remain home to host San Diego Mesa on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m.
