The Master’s College women’s indoor track team made school history Saturday by toeing the line for the very first time at the Westmont Sunshine Indoor track meet.
“It was pretty sweet to step on the track for the first time in a women’s indoor track competition,” commented head coach Zach Schroder. “We immediately hit two national qualifying marks and won a few races. It was a great way to open up the season.”
Highlighting the Lady Mustangs’ efforts was Hannah Kellerman (Sartell, MN) who finished first in the 3000 meter run with a final time of 10 minutes and 12.89 seconds. Kellerman’s time qualified her for the NAIA’s “A” standard in the 3k at the indoor track nationals.
Rachel Ingoldsby (St. Johns, FL), Morgan Pedrick (Newhall, CA), Ayla Draper (Visalia, CA), and Kellerman represented the Lady Mustangs as TMC’s Distance Medley Relay team and produced a first-place finish in 12:29.71. On top of winning the event, the squad hit the NAIA’s “A” standard for indoor track and set a school record along the way.
In the 1 Mile Run, Hollie Larsen (Saugus, CA) placed second overall in 5:23.47 seconds. Kartina Graham (Riverside, CA) finished fifth in 5:28.48, while Micayla Frankian (Saugus, CA) finished in seventh place in 5:31.00. Bringing up the rear, Charity Schroeder (Palmdale, CA) ran the even in 5:38.60, finishing 10th overall, while Jessica Hawley (Santa Clarita, CA) finished in 12th place at 6:21.47.
Finally, in the 400 meter dash, Pedrick placed 8th overall in 1:04.00.
Now, the Lady Mustangs will focus on their next and final indoor track competition of the 2014 campaign – the CMS Rossi Relays. The event will take place in Claremont on February 22 at 1:20 p.m.
