animal021114[District Atty] – A woman was charged today with abusing her dog in her home near Lancaster, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Ani Bailey said Desiree Lenore Martinez, 41 (dob 9/14/72), is charged with two counts each of cruelty to an animal with the allegations that she used a rock and shoe laces as deadly and dangerous weapons.

Martinez pleaded not guilty at arraignment today in case PA079674 in Department 130 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, San Fernando Branch. She is scheduled back in court for a pretrial hearing on Feb. 24 in Department S.

Martinez was arrested on Feb. 10 after her pit bull mix was found hardly able to move with injuries to its head and eyes.

If convicted as charged she faces four years in state prison. The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control is providing medical treatment for the dog. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Santa Clarita Station, is investigating the case.

  7. Fry her. People who abuse critters rarely stop there.

  8. So glad the sheriffs, and the DA are pressing charges….let’s hope we get a judge that loves animals (not likely ). :(

  9. She deserves to get more than 4 years in prison. There’s no excuse for cruelty to animals.

  10. The degree of human cruelty is beyond my imagination. A defenseless animal puts his trust and loyalty into his owner…..NOT to be mistreated like this! I can think of a bigger punishment than 4 years!

  11. She should get the same treatment she gave her dog!

  12. ugh :/ hopefully the poor dog is on the mend now and WONT be mentally scarred for life. the dog deserves a second chance, but the owner deserves everything thats coming to her (and more) once she gets to prison.

  13. Poor baby..I’m glad he’s in good hands & pray he gets a great home & she on the other hand should have to feel daily the same torture should put on this poor animal…bless his heart..

  14. Jack Walsh Jack Walsh says:

The deputy understands the dog’s fear

  15. Put her away!!!!!!!! Forever!!!!!!

  16. People are so very cruel. I hope she gets what she deserves for this horrific crime of cruelty! My prayers for this sweet baby to be whole again inside and out!
