Top junior high and high school student musicians from throughout the Hart School District will perform Saturday, March 1, starting at 7:30 p.m., at the Hart High School Auditorium in the 33rd annual district honor band concert.
The junior high honor band is comprised of 86 students and the high school honor band includes 92 student musicians. The more than 175 students, who have been selected to participate in this concert, came from a field of some 700 talented students who auditioned. The community is invited to attend and the tickets are $12 at the door.
Hart District Honor Band, 2013
The annual concert is directed by guest conductors that are either university directors or other prominent music educators. The guest conductors this year are Dr. Eric Hammer from University of the Pacific in Stockton, directing the high school honor band, and Angela Woo, director of instrumental music at John Adams Middle School in Santa Monica, directing the junior high school honor band.
Students have been busy rehearsing for this 33rd annual Hart District event and are looking forward to the opportunity to perform with their classmates as well as with students from across the District. Students from Castaic Middle School are also participating.
In addition to recognition as an honor band member, one junior high student and several high school students will be recognized at the concert for outstanding honor band participation over two to six years in the honor band program. The Robert K. Downs Memorial Scholarship is presented to a senior annually in appreciation for Mr. Downs’ contributions to music education in the SCV, as a former band director for Hart High School and College of the Canyons. Several smaller Honor Band scholarships will also be announced.
