1934 - Bouquet Canyon Reservoir, replacement for ill-fated St. Francis Dam & reservoir, begins to fill with water [story]
Bouquet Reservoir

rain020614With heavy rain in the forecast, Los Angeles County leaders are asking residents and businesses to shut all irrigation systems off.

Two storms expected later this week are anticipated to dump up to several inches of rain, more than enough water for lawns and gardens until at least the middle of next week. On January 17, 2014, Governor Jerry Brown declared a drought emergency for California, with the state suffering its driest year on record.

“We all need to do our part to help conserve water, so the very best and most effective thing any one of us can do to take immediate advantage of the coming rain is to simply shut our sprinkler systems off,” said Supervisor Don Knabe, Chairman of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. “Your yard won’t need to be watered until later next week, at the very least.”

I’m getting tired of SCV insisting I don’t water my lawn…
I pick my wife up from work at 10 pm several nights a week in the lyons/orchard area…
The sprinklers in the center island are running nearly every night…
Excess water just running down Orchard…
The timer runs for at least 10 min per zone, way overkill..!
And, I’ve seen em running when it’s raining too…

When the city manages their own sprinkler systems in a responsible manner, maybe then others will listen…

    • I don’t believe that doing the right thing begins with someone else. It begins with you and me. But I have asked city workers about runoff and over watering and like everything else, they simply deny that what I say is the case.

  15. I think it’s interesting that we (at least my neighborhood) do not get billed by our usage of water. We are “allocated” water based on the square feet of our property. Even though we have a water meter, the water company has never looked at our meters since we moved here.
So, a family of 6 is billed the same as a family of two.

  16. Randall Scott says:

If I want to run my water, I’ll run my water. It’s time for the government to leave us alone. In fact, I’m going to water extra all weekend, I bet we don’t run out of water.

  17. Yet I bet the city will have all sprinkles at a full blast

  18. Paula Miller Paula Miller says:

I believe the city uses recycled water. If not, shame on them.

  20. Grow food instead of lawns! !! Nobody will ask you not to water your food. You will also have something to eat and probably share.

  21. I haven’t watered by lawn in 6 weeks.

  22. Daniel Konz Daniel Konz says:

Understood, and agreed with completely… I haven’t watered any of the grass on our appointment complex property since winter began…

I’m just sick of the hypocritical commercials and PSA’s…

  23. DK says:

I wish these types of items specified LAWN sprinklers because there are dopes out there that will read the headline and try to turn off fire sprinkler systems.
