College of the Canyons had 10 baseball players named All-Western State Conference, South Division, including Joseph Cloney who was donned the conference pitcher of the year.
In addition, three Cougars were named Golden Glove honorees.
“Cloney was our most reliable pitcher this season,” College of the Canyons head baseball coach Chris Cota said. “He shut down the competition with his strikeouts and took pressure off our defense. Cloney is very deserving of this honor.”
Cloney led the conference in two categories – wins (six) and strikeouts (56). He was ranked second in home runs allowed (two) and fifth in the WSC South for strikeouts per game (9.57). He turned in a 2.05 ERA during the conference season and ranked second in the state with his 89 strikeouts. The West Ranch High School alum etched his place in the COC record books, taking the No. 3 spot for most strikeouts in a season, along with Cory Jones (2012) and Fred Riscen (1987).
The southpaw is just the second pitcher to win the conference honor. Trevor McDonald won the same award in 2009.
