[KHTS] – A Sun Valley man was killed shortly after midnight Thursday after a big rig crashed into a Lincoln Town Car on Interstate 5, north of the Santa Clarita Valley.

A sedan driven by Davonte T. Carr, 25, of San Jose, made an abrupt lane change at approximately 65 miles per hour, nearly colliding with the driver of a big rig, according to preliminary reports from the California Highway Patrol.

logo_chpIn response, the big rig driver reportedly took evasive action to avoid a collision, resulting in his truck jack-knifing and ending up on its side.

The big rig became engulfed in flames, killing the driver, who was not identified by CHP officials who are trying to make next of kin identification.

Officials with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said the body was badly burned, and identification could take weeks. X-rays or dental records would likely be necessary.

L.A. County Fire Department responded to the scene, extinguishing a spot fire, as well as the truck.

A CalTrans HazMat team also responded, and officials worked for several hours to clean up about 50 gallons of diesel fuel that spilled onto the roadway and into a nearby storm drain.

Ocean Blue Environmental Services officials also responded for the clean-up effort.

One lane remained open during the incident response, but traffic did not fully resume on that stretch of Interstate 5 until around noon Thursday.

Carr was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

No arrested were made in connection with the crash, and the exact cause of the crash is under investigation by CHP officials.

  7. These idiots that drive like they own the road need to wake the hell up! If you’re in that much of a hurry, leave earlier. Put the phone down, pay attention and have some respect for others on the road. Sad. I hope he gets charged and convicted of vehicular manslaughter at minimum.

Not defending anyone here but I see a lot of semis driving in lanes authorized only for automobiles north of scv. I’ve seen several near accidents because of this.

  14. Andy Ryan Andy Ryan says:

James Parker I agree. I drive from SCV to Bakersfield as my daily commute and ever time I have to get out of the #2 lane because a truck is going 5 MPH faster than the other trucks going 35, so it can pass them. Makes us have to all get in the passing lane and piss off the people going 80+.

  15. jaime says:

Truckers CANNOT stop on a dime. The driver has family that is now left to morn the loss. Driving like punks around semi trucks is dangerous not only to yourself but everybody on the road around you. Have some respect.

  16. Barbara rose flack says:

Hello, I am the widow of Bradley Flack who was killed June 12 2014. I don’t know if anyone will see this but after 3 years I finally felt like looking up the accident and found this.
Life has been difficult without my beautiful husband, I miss him so much. I left NV and moved to Colorado to be close to Brads family and it’s the best thing I could have done. I’m surrounded by loving family. Brad and I were saving to buy a house so I bought one. His dream came true. Bradley will be with me forever and ever. Thank you all for the compassion you’ve shown in your comments. Sincerely, Bradley s wife Barbara.
