[KHTS] – Prayer Angels for the Military are asking for help from Santa Clarita Valley residents to prepare care packages for deployed U.S. troops.

The group is planning to meet Sept. 13, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Newhall Library to fill boxes.

prayerangels111613c“We still have local deployed troops and some have suffered losses and injuries in their units. They still need support and prayers from our community,” said Suzon Gerstel, president of Prayer Angels for the Military.

Tables will be set up to make cards for the troops to go into their boxes.

Officials are requesting for help with donated items. Items needed include: Individual sealed packages of granola bars, beef jerky, snacks, canned ravioli & hearty soups with pop tops, peanut butter, Ritz type crackers, tuna kits, Starbucks type ground coffee, individual drink packets, white or black cotton crew socks, good razors (2 or 3 blade), body wash, lotion, unscented baby wipes, zip-lock bags (gallon & quart), international phone cards (AT&T only), AA/AAA batteries, K-9 treats and toys for large military dogs. Please include a card or letter of thanks.

Cash donations are also needed for shipping.

Donations can be dropped off at the library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the day of the event or taken in advance to a Prayer Angel location.

The main Prayer Angels for the Military site is located at 21609 Oak Orchard Rd, Newhall, CA 91321.

Tax-deductible donations can be mailed to the main site or made online thru PayPal at the website.

Deployed troops can be registered online or by email to receive care packages.

Contact Gerstel at 661-799-8865 or by email at prayerangelsforthemilitary@yahoo.com for more information or additional drop off sites.

prayerangels111613bAbout Prayer Angels for the Military

We started out as a handful of women supporting our children and husbands in the first deployment to Iraq in 2003. Almost immediately they gave us the names of other Marines and soldiers who also needed our prayers and support. After that, the list just kept growing. Our group of supporters grew, too, and Prayer Angels for the Military was officially founded July 14, 2004.
