What’s it like to be homeless? Come experience one night of “homelessness” during the fifth annual Box City. Sponsored by Family Promise of the Santa Clarita Valley, a nonprofit organization serving local homeless families, Box City brings awareness to the issue of family homelessness occurring right here in the Santa Clarita Valley.

boxcityOn Sept. 27 local residents will spend one night in a cardboard box at Bridgeport Park. While raising awareness of a serious topic, the event will also feature music, entertainment, activities, raffle prizes and awards. There is a $25 registration fee and participants are asked to set a goal to raise $75 in pledges and contributions. Each participant will receive a paper-sack dinner and bagel breakfast. To register for Box City, visit www.familypromisescv.org.

“Box City allows all of us to reflect on how fortunate we are to live in this valley and understand how we can help those who are encountering difficult times,” said Laurie Ender, president of the Family Promise Board of Directors. “Many are surprised to find out just how many homeless families there are in the Santa Clarita Valley. Family Promise is able to provide a safe place to stay, food, counseling and, most importantly, hope.”

The title sponsor of this year’s event is LTC Performance Strategies. Village sponsors include Valencia United Methodist Church, Los Angeles County “Over the Hump” MTB Race Series, APECS Aerospace Corporation and Williams Homes. Gold sponsors include Dal Soglio & Martens LLP Attorneys at Law, Infinity Wealth Management, Princess Cruises, Bank of Santa Clarita, Curtis, Premier Financial Search Accounting and Financial Staffing, Choppe Advertising Group, Northpark Community Church, St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, The Luechtefeld Group at Morgan Stanley and Paseo Tennis Gals.

Santa Clarita Mayor Laurene West will be presenting the “key” to Box City to the Box City “mayor,” which is the participant who raises the most money.  Entertaining participants are Andrew Heath and Travelin’ Light and John Stratton, as well as RockNacappella, a local youth performance group.

“We are excited for this year’s event, which we expect to have a record turnout,” noted Ender.

Since 2011 Family Promise of the Santa Clarita Valley has been offering shelter, meals and support services to families without homes. Its cost-efficient and effective community response to family homelessness is made possible through the generosity of local congregations, volunteers and donors. More information is available at www.familypromisescv.org.

This is joke. It’s just another community fund raiser party, it’s has nothing to do with being homeless, except a box.
Since when does a homeless person get to have entertainment and raffles and festivities?
You should be doing this under a bridge with no lights, and leave everyone alone to their own devices, that would be homeless.
