The city of Santa Clarita is proud to partner with Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation for the Throwdown 2014 Skateboarding Contest Series held Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Santa Clarita Skate Park, located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.
Check-in for the contest will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a brief warm-up period and the beginning of the competitions at 10:30 a.m. Santa Clarita skaters of all ages are invited to register to compete in the competition, and spectators are welcome to cheer on the participants. Skaters aged 9 and under, 10-13, and 14-17 will skate in two main competitions, the Park Jam Contest and the Best Trick Contest.
“The City of Santa Clarita is excited to partner with the SCMAF and provide an opportunity for young local skaters to show off their skills at the City’s state-of-the-art skate park,” said Santa Clarita Mayor Laurene Weste. “Parents, friends and skate fans of all ages are also invited to come out and watch the contest in action.”
The “Throwdown” skate contest will feature two challenging contests, the Park Jam, in which the skater is judged on technical skill, difficulty of tricks, use of course, speed and style, and the Best Trick Contest, where each skater will use one element of the course to attempt their best trick.
Early registration before Oct. 2 is $15. Registration will be available after Oct. 2 up until the day of the contest for $25. To register, visit SCMAF.org or contact the City of Santa Clarita’s Park and Recreation Office at (661) 250-3700.
