[KHTS] – The memory of a Los Angeles County firefighter from Santa Clarita will be honored in an upcoming ceremony in Sacramento.
Fire Captain John D. Mazzocco (1965-2013), who grew up in the SCV and continued to live here, will have his name added to the Memorial Wall in Sacramento Oct. 11. He was assigned to Fire Station 111 after serving at Station 73 in Newhall.
Fifteen names will be added to the Memorial Wall, joining more than 1,200 California firefighters who have paid the ultimate price since California became a state in 1850, according to the California Fire Foundation. The annual ceremony provides an opportunity for firefighters, families and the public to pay their respects to the men and women on public safety’s front lines.
“Our Department mourns the loss of Fire Captain John D. Mazzocco of Fire Station 111, who passed away after a long-term illness on Dec. 12, 2013, at the age of 48,” according to the Los Angeles County Firefighters Memorial website. “Mazzocco, son of retired Battalion Chief Bob Mazzocco, began his career with our department in 1986 and was a resident of Santa Clarita, a community he served for the majority of his tenure.”
