Over two months before the first pitch of another season is thrown, The Master’s College’s Steve Karkenny has been named to the 2015 NAIA Baseball Preseason All-America Team. Karkenny represents the Mustangs on the Preseason All-American list.
Karkenny, a senior, had a .373 batting average with six home runs, 45 runs scored, 28 stolen bases, and a team-high 45 rbi in 2014.
In 2014, the senior standout earned NAIA All-American honors, All-GSAC honors, Scholar-Athlete kudos, GSAC Gold Glove recognition, and was errorless in 123 chances (1.000 fielding percentage), most of those opportunities coming in 55 starts in the outfield while a few more came on the mound where he made 17 relief appearances.
Also, at the end of last season, Karkenny stood atop of the NAIA by ranking first in fielding percentage (1.000).
Karkenny, along with his teammates, will get his first chance at living up to his preseason billing when the Mustangs open the 2015 season with a three-game series against Concordia in Irvine, January 23-25. A week later, they christen their home schedule and GSAC play when they host Biola in a three-game series, January 30-31.
