1954 - Frank Sinatra, Sterling Hayden on streets of Newhall for filming of "Suddenly" [story]
Frank Sinatra

[KHTS] – A Santa Clarita teenager who was struck and killed by a freight train in Canyon Country Friday has been identified by officials from the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner’s office.

The victim of the train-versus-pedestrian collision was 16-year-old Kimberly Jimenez-Soto of Santa Clarita, said Lt. David Smith of the Coroner’s office.

Jimenez-Soto was struck by a train at 10:20 a.m. Friday near Ruether Avenue and Soledad Canyon Road. The train came to a stop at Rainbow Glen Drive.

Initial reports indicated the girl’s death may have been accidental, as opposed to a suicide attempt. The nature of her death is still under investigation.

From a Facebook reader: An acquaintance I know saw the entire accident from across the street and tried to yell at her to move and was unable to get to the other side of Soledad to push her out of the way, but he didn’t get to her on time. He’s pretty upset about this. He says she was in her own world and possibly wearing head phones, so that is probably why she didn’t hear it coming.

  13. This whole town is going to hell

    • With the massive increase of people living here, and the expansion overall of the area, it makes sense that more deaths will occur. Doesn’t mean the “whole town is going to hell”. Unless by that you mean we’re all Satanists on our way to a fiery afterlife in Lucifer’s party zone.

    • Lisa Faye Lisa Faye says:

Just so sad of the losses our lil town has experienced this past week. Heartfelt prayers to the families :'(

    • Well if you think about @jared gardner this town has so many suicides especially teen suicides. Its something about this town that drives ppl crazy or idk the boredom here in this town. All i know is thar death is our truly release

    • Mike Weaver Mike Weaver says:

I agree I moved up here with my family because the crime rate is low but with all the new housing tracks being built crime is on its rise as well as accidents…

    • Erik Meloni Erik Meloni says:

This town is “heaven” compared to any of the various “hells” scattered throughout the world.
You should be thankful that a kid wandering in front of a train is one of the worse events taking place here.

    • @Erik meloni i am in hell. I had the chances to kill myself years ago but i stopped myself to do it. I have so much to live for and im doing my best to have my own version of heaven. To me teen suicide is another excuse of lack of living, cant enjoy the smaller things in life and cant handle reality.

    • Robert Soto Robert Soto says:

Omar, that still doesn’t mean this town is going to hell. Everyone’s mind are different, everyone’s biology are different. Compared to other cities around us we should all be thankful to live in a place like this. If you want to talk about suicide rates, go to Japan. SCV, is such a good place to grow up in.

    • Robert Soto that was a great response.. this is a great town… it is what you make it.. this is such a sad tragedy.

    • This IS a beautiful city with some wonderful people. Peace begins at home…..Prayers for the family and friends affected by this horrible tragedy.

    • Patty Ann Patty Ann says:

It’s no different now than 30,40,50 etc…years ago. The difference is we have the internet, social media…The larger the town the more things like this happens.

His heart is broken and he is falling apart. We have a daughter the same age. Her family and friends are constantly on my mind, and in every prayer I say to God. The sheriff’s department has to investigate the witness statements, the train camera, and lots of other evidence before they can rule a suicide, intervire family, mental health history, social history. The train was blaring it’s horn non-stop. This is very, very loud. Louder than headphones. The crossing gates were down, with lights flashing. There were cars lined up at the crossing. She walked right past everything, staring straight ahead. A freight train that is so close to you rumbles the earth under your feet. You can feel it. You also have peripheral vision as you are walking up towards something. She never turned her head to look at the train crew. It was tunnel-vision … a trance.

  59. Gigi Valdes Gigi Valdes says:

  64. This wasn’t a suicide, she was distracted by her cellphone. And she wasn’t skipping school. It drives me nuts when people judge not knowing the story. Her best friend is in my kids’ karate class and she is devastated and so is her family.

    • arlene says:

Kim Wilcox Castruita. Nobody who was not there can speculate. Nobody can know her thoughts. Not even her family. My husband was in the train. He so distraught, he can barely speak, but what he does describe, it would be impossible for her to not see this train coming, feel it, hear it … she was not on her cellphone. She stepped right in front of it, 2 feet away.

  65. GV has double late start on 1st Friday of the month and I heard she was running to catch the bus that waits for no one . Sad for the family . Rest in peace beautiful !!

  71. I was an engineer for Southern Pacific in the 70’s it was a very stressful job. Not only worried about the crew. But by hitting something. I did 4 times. That was my run from LA to Bakersfield. My prayers are with her & her family, but also with the train crew.

  72. I live close to the cross…and there isn’t a sidewalk to cross …its a place abandoned by city…
