1986 - COC board votes to allow Argentine cliff swallows to nest forever on sides of buildings [story]

[KHTS] – Three people were transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Tuesday afternoon after a two-vehicle collision at Bouquet Junction.

A Honda sedan collided with a Ford truck around 3:11 p.m. at the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Bouquet Canyon Road, said Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The crash reduced westbound traffic on Soledad Canyon Road to one lane as Sheriff’s Station deputies, including a traffic investigator, reviewed the scene.

“I was turning left into the parking lot,” said Richard Perlstein, who was driving the truck. “I saw what looked like this missile coming at me and I knew I couldn’t get out of his way in time.”

Perlstein, who didn’t appear to have sustained any serious injuries, was the lone occupant of the truck, while three people were in the sedan, Bryski said.

Out of the three occupants of the sedan, one was critically injured, while two were severely injured.

Sheriff’s Station officials did not release the identities of the Honda’s occupants. Witnesses reported they appeared to be male teenagers.

Los Angeles County Fire Department officials used the “jaws of life” to removed two of the sedan occupants out of the vehicle, Perlstein said.

SCV Sheriff’s Station deputies are still investigating the incident and have not confirmed whether speed or narcotics were a factor in the collision.

    • Drive safe says:

Per the law enforcement on scene, the car with the 3 teen age boys were driving 85 MPH!! In a 45 MPH zone. Eye witnesses report to police that the Honda was “weaving in and out of traffic” and it was confirmed that the Honda did have drugs in the car. The truck is legally at fault yet the Honda is also at fault for reckless endangerment. If you look at the photos, there is yellow tape. It is a crime scene. Let’s just be thankful no person died.

  32. Scott says:

Folks really need to take into account the speed of oncoming traffic when making U/Left turns on this road, or turning out into traffic in general. I have more “pucker” moments than I’d like to think about riding my motorcycle around this city.

  33. Maria says:

@Edgar Ezpinoza it’s not funny at all. What kind of “homie” or person are you..

Also side note, if anyone drives past the scene of the accident, notice that there are not break marks. The Honda never hit the breaks. All drivers hit the breaks in this situation unless they are A. Distracted or B. Under the influence and have a slow reaction time.

  36. There are certain places on Soledad that are really bad this is one of them between the train station and bouquet canyon and the other is from whites canyon to where the bowling alley is not quite to the train station. These’s are long stretch areas where cars speed the speed limit on this road is between 45-50 but most people are speeding at 55-75 the problem is that the curvature of the road doesn’t leave you very much in control of your car at the higher speed. And it doesn’t help that this road is very congested with not many alternative routes to take. SLOW DOWN PEOPLE!

  44. Berenice Moreno says:

no body knows what really happen so i think the dumb people that are saying their were speeding which their were not so people shut up and mind your business and just bless and pray for them so they could get better soon. Prayers for them god may you be with them.

    • Drive safe says:

I WAS there at the scene of the accident and I WAS at the hospital, I KNOW what happened to all involved. The photos of the accident speak for themselves. An accident that bad is not a 45MPH crash, speeding was involved. I’ve seen enough accidents where first responders can tell the estimated speed of the vehicles involved. The Honda was speeding and NEVER hit the breaks! The only skid marks are those from the point of impact. Why did the Honda not hit the breaks? Any driver (unless under the influence or distracted texting) would break to avoid the accident. But the Honda did not. Go look for yourself, there are no break marks leading up to the accident…
On thr point of impact, the Honda flipped over the Ford according to eye witnesses who saw the accident first hand. They also report the driver speeding past them, moments before the accident occurred. You were not there, you do not know if he was speeding or not. It’s a bit hypocritical for you to yell at others for posting stuff but then you yourself justify that the Honda was indeed not speeding when you yourself don’t really know. The police reports are in, the investigators have measured the accident and calculated the speed time.

      • jennifer says:

Well they weren’t under the influence because they just had left school, and I been at the hospital and there are no results on them being under the influence, I know the people and I know why they didn’t hit the brakes it was to late, and when a situation like this occur you don’t hit the brakes you take your foot off accelerator and hold on to the wheel, and I believe that it was both their faults thank god there okay and alive

  45. Amber Perales says:

Everyone was making fun of them but my son almost lost his dad this day!
