Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Santa Clarita Station conducted a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on Friday night within the city of Santa Clarita. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.

DUI/Drivers License checkpoints have been shown to lower DUI deaths and injuries. A major component of these checkpoints are the deterrent effects it has on those who might drive drunk or drugged impaired, bringing about more awareness and encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent. Ninety Percent of California drivers approve of checkpoints.

* 1755 Vehicles through the Checkpoint

* 1320 Drivers Checked at the Checkpoint

* 3 Unlicensed Drivers were Arrested and Sent to Court

* 1 Vehicles were Stored for 1 Day

* 3 Vehicle were Released per Checkpoint Release Procedures

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting additional DUI/Drivers License Checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols throughout the upcoming year in our ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways.

Funding for these operations is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety http://www.ots.ca.gov/ through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration http://www.nhtsa.gov/

If you see dangerous driving, Report Drunk Drivers – Call 9-1-1!

Partner to prevent or report crime by contacting your local Sheriff’s station. Or if you wish to remain Anonymous, call “LA Crime Stoppers” by dialing 800-222-TIPS (8477), texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.

AS A DRIVER, PLAN AHEAD WITH THESE TIPS:

* Arrange rides home for your friends, family, co-workers and yourself before the drinking begins

* Identify and provide free non-alcoholic drinks or other promotional items to the Designated Driver

* Party hosts and servers must limit drinks to your guests or patrons. Don’t serve more than one or two over several hours.

* Cut back on the amount of drinks you plan to bring to the party – and provide plenty of food.

  7. Thank goodness those resources where in place to catch those menaces.

  8. msc545 says:

Well, they back to it again – running useless, illegal checkpoints that never catch any drunk drivers. There is a slight twist – they have taken to NOT announcing it ahead of time – and I believe they are required to do this.

Unconstitutional tyrannical oath breakers concerned with one thing and one thing only stealing our money and our freedom. If you think that these check points are for public safety your very mistaken. We must not forget history because it always repeats its self.Check points, demanding your drivers license infringes on our constitutional rights. And if ee the people dont wake up and start educating everyone about the fraud that the courts are calling the law.We the people will continue to lose mote and more freedom.Know your constitution our childrens futures depend on it!!Maritime admiralty law is the law of the banks do your research.Trust me you sont beleave how we have been lied to.

  16. msc545 says:

I read your “announcement” along with the picture that was referred to earlier. You need to:

    1. Get a new photographer. Nobody cares what a drunk tank looks like and the least you could do is take a decent picture if you feel the need to post garbage like this.

    2. Stop publishing police press announcements, and for once write something of your own.

    3. Start commenting on the useless checkpoints and the waste of money and reduction in safety they cause by taking needed police off the street on *weekend nights* when they are most needed.

Read our “about” page sometime and you might understand why we distribute all local government press releases.

      • msc545 says:

I read your “about” page and it seems like the city government tells you what to write. You must feel very proud.

        • SCVNews.com says:

Well of course we are. We’re the local government and education (city’s and school districts’) television channel operator. We’re an information delivery system. When you complain to us about something the city or anyone else does, you’re simply shooting the messenger.

          • msc545 says:

I’m sure your journalism professors are really proud of you. Since you are an “information delivery system”, why are you also delivering editorial content ?

          • SCVNews.com says:

Journalism professors? Huh? Look. When someone asks a question, or insults us as you so frequently do, we tend to think it’s rude, or wrong, not to respond. But it always works out to be a mistake. We need to learn not to do that. Bye.

  17. Kim Canaan Kim Canaan says:

Who cares where they are, don’t drink and drive. Have A driver, Save A life.

  18. Travis says:

    Checkpoints are illegal searches! Treason.

  19. Shane Weeks Shane Weeks says:

Saturation Patrols are way better at getting drunk drives.

  20. lighttech says:

where the 3 unlicensed drivers– illegals?

and if so did the cops hand them milk and cookies per regulations with profound apologizes for profiling ???

  21. mboron says:

I can’t believe the idiots that write in on this subject. They can’t spell, can’t write a decent
sentence, probably drive and have been stopped by one of these checkpoints, and show their ignorance!

  22. It was announced, they did their job and three unlicensed drivers. No drunks– good! Roads were safer on Saturday night. No whining. Just don’t drink and drive! Got it?

    • msc545 says:

The drunks were all busy avoiding the checkpoint, since five minutes after it went it everyone knew it’s location. Try doing that with a patrol car.
