Assemblyman Scott Wilk introduced legislation Thursday to make recipients of special-recognition military license plates eligible for free entrance to all California State Parks every day.
“All Americans owe a debt of gratitude to our military veterans,” Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, said in a statement. “Our brave military service members have given all they have to preserve our liberties and freedoms, and their sacrifices should never be forgotten.”
The bill, AB 240, “is a great way to honor our military heroes and encourage state park tourism while providing an economic benefit to the parks and surrounding communities,” Wilk said.
AB 240 will allow recipients of Purple Heart, Pearl Harbor Survivor, Ex-Prisoner of War, Congressional Medal of Honor, Gold Star Family, and Legion of Valor license plates eligible for free entrance to all California State Parks every day.
Wilk’s 38th Assembly District encompasses Simi Valley, the northwestern section of the San Fernando Valley and most of the Santa Clarita Valley.

Nice gesture. But housing and health care are needed more.
As a Purple Heart recipient, I appreciate Scott Wilks thoughtfulness, however I agree with Suzi Smith. Less than 1% of American citizens alive today have served in the military. Their service and sacrifice deserve our respect and appreciation. Semper Fidelis.
