Sheriff’s deputies, Los Angeles County fire and Animal Control officials were busy during this past Fourth of July weekend.

Between Friday, July 3, through Sunday, July 5, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to 244 calls for services regarding fireworks, seized more than 200 pounds of illegal fireworks and cited two people for illegal fireworks use, said Detective Josh Dubin of the SCV Sheriff’s Station. On Saturday, July 4 alone, deputies responded to 147 calls for service regarding illegal fireworks.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department received above-average calls for a normal day but were not over the top busy, officials said.

Residents from a home on the 22600 block of La Rochelle Drive reported a brush fire around 6 p.m. Saturday, officials said. No homes or structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.

Los Angeles County firefighters responded to the home and doused a one-and-a-half acre brush fire, according to a Nixle news release. There were numerous reports of illegal fireworks being used in the area just before the brush fire.

Arson investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the cause of the fire, according to the Nixle.

Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control officials had about 34 dogs and cats that have been impounded since July 3 in Castaic, said Castaic Animal Shelter Manager Karen Stepp. About 25 of those were dogs and nine were cats.

About 12 were returned to their owners and have gone home, she said, adding that the animals can be “scared out of their minds” because of fireworks even with their owner’s best intention to protect them.

We live need Valencia Valley elementary and there is an unbelievable amount of firework trash debris all over the campus and adjoining park. It’s sad and disrepectful – definitely NOT patriotic.

    • Jerry Lucas Jerry Lucas says:

Wait. I just had a thought Anne Taylor. Are you speaking if trash like bags and cups? Or are you talking firework stuff. I may have over reacted. Lol !!! Just saying. I thought about it after I typed. Youay have had a point. I hate people who leave their trash at a movie theater. I’m gonna move on now and pretend I never wrote this cuz I wasn’t there. Awkward. Lol !!!

    • Jerry Lucas Jerry Lucas says:

Yeah. Firework debris. Sounds good to me. Patriotic for sure. Trash from a picnic ….. No.
Still trying to figure out if your legit … Or a thin skinned whiney little beotch. Let me know cuz I don’t think I can sleep tonight :)

  3. 244 calls wow!! Way to go on waisting the sheriffs time. They could be going after the real problem out here. Drug addicts and drunk drivers

    • Or finding whoever keeps killing and dumping bodies in our town. Huh who knew fireworks were SUCH a crime to take priority. For all of you nay Sayers. I grew up out here when they were legal and every neighbor wet their WOOD roofs drive way and lawn down we had a bucket of clean water in stand by and a bucket to put the sparklers and extinguish the hot used fireworks. We cleaned up our mess and were safe ,had a blast and no issues. So it’s sad that other people had to be irresponsible and ruin it for the majority. Then again seems to be a trend now a days.

    • Myk Halibut Myk Halibut says:

Ya, because being addicted to a substance is a crime. No victim no crime.
