Santa Clarita Sports Report: July 07, 2015 – Saugus High graduate Abbey Weitzeil won a gold and silver medal in swimming at the World University Games in Korea.

She won a silver medal in the 100-meter freestyle in 54.53 seconds. She was 0.14 seconds behind her United State teammate Shannon Vreeland.

Weitzeil won a gold medal with Vreeland as part of the 400 meter freestyle relay team. The United States set the World University Games record in 3 minutes, 38.12 seconds.

Weitzeil is also entered in the 50-meter freestyle.

In the NHL, the Kings signed defenseman Jamie McBain to a one-year deal. He scored nine points in 26 games for the Kings last season.

In the major leagues, four Dodgers were selected to the National League All Star team.

Adrian Gonzalez, Zack Greinke, Yasmani Grandal and rookie Joc Pederson were picked as reserves for the NL All Stars.

On the field, Jimmy Rollins came through in the clutch against his old team and the Dodgers held on for a hard-fought 10-7 victory over the Phillies on Monday night at Dodger Stadium in a game that took four hours and 13 minutes to complete.

Brett Anderson takes the mound for the Dodgers for the 7:10 p.m. PT start. He’s looking for his fourth straight win and has allowed just three runs in his last 20 innings pitched. Anderson leads the Majors with a 69.2 percent ground-ball rate.
