lasummerfest072415_268x375On Friday night, the L.A. Summerfest at Rivendale on The Old Road presents “Broadway Rocks.” More than a dozen of your favorite local singers will perform tunes from stage productions and movies like “All Shook Up,” “Footloose,” “Rent,” “Rock of Ages,” “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Tommy,” plus Queen’s immortal “We Will Rock You.”

General admission is just $15; students and seniors $12, VIPs $30. The show’s a benefit for the Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival’s summer apprentice program and student scholarships, so you get to see a cool show and support local talent at the same time. Get your tickets at broadwayrocks dot Eventbrite dot com.

Tony Galla

Also Friday night, the Tony Galla Band rocks the Valencia Jazz & Blues stage, on the street outside the Hyatt Regency off McBean Parkway. Galla’s a veteran blues and rock singer-songwriter-guitarist, a Jimi Hendrix protégé, no less. He’s a regular on the blues and Italian festival circuits, and has a ton of movie, TV and commercial credits. Showtime for Tony Galla is 7 p.m., and admission is free.

Last Saturday night’s Concert in the Park got rained out, but headliner Marie Wise-Hawkins and her band have been rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 15, at 6 p.m.

The three local Country Showdown finalists who were supposed to open for Marie – Kylie Mac, Suzanne Harper and Jarett James – will open this Saturday night for The PettyBreakers, the Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers tribute band.

Country Showdown judges will pick one of the three finalists to go on to next round of the national competition, at Knott’s Berry Farm on Aug. 8.

Showtime at Central Park is 6 p.m. Saturday, and it’s free for all ages.

Finally, The Grateful Dudes, the longest-running bluegrass band in Southern California, returns to Vincenzo’s Pizza on Lyons in Newhall on Saturday night. Dude Herb Pedersen says the chances are also really good for a special guest or two. In the past, that’s often meant Herb’s frequent touring partner, Chris Hillman, one of the founding members of The Byrds and the Desert Rose Band. Call (661) 259-6733 for more info.

The 76.6-mile-long Antelope Valley Line has the third-highest ridership in Metrolink’s system with an estimated average of 9,000 passengers daily. However, the uneven terrain and single-tracking along the line in some areas forces trains to travel at a slower speed which results in an estimated travel time of approximately one hour between Santa Clarita and Union Station.
