A man suffered serious injuries Monday morning in a traffic collision in the 17000 block of Sierra Highway, in front of the College of the Canyons Canyon Country Campus.
He was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in critical condition where he immediately underwent surgery for multiple injuries.
“It is apparent that the driver lost control of the vehicle,” said Sgt. Richard Cohen of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Traffic Division.
The collision involved a single vehicle with a tree and plumbing pipes for a business near the crash site, Cohen said. The man transported to Henry Mayo was not a College of the Canyons student.
COC students were alerted of the traffic collision by the college via email and instructed to take an alternate route to the campus due to the southbound closure of Sierra Highway near the site of the crash.
The condition of the passenger in the vehicle is not immediately known.

Wasn’t such a good day for Sierra Highway.
There was another accident on it north of the American Beauty Homes later in the day.
