UPDATE 10 p.m.: CHP is working to open two lanes within 2 hours on the I-5 south near Calgrove Boulevard.
About 150 gallons of fuel spilled on the freeway, according to CHP. No drains were affected. The fuel area has been contained as of 9:47 p.m.
Traffic is at a standstill and backed up past Magic Mountain Parkway.
Original story
A SigAlert has been issued for the southbound I-5 freeway at Calgrove Boulevard after a traffic collision caused diesel fuel to be spilled across all lanes.
Traffic is being diverted off Lyons Avenue. California Highway Patrol officers estimate the SigAlert will be lifted in about an hour-and-a-half.
The incident was reported around 8:44 p.m.
“We got there and it looks like three semi trucks and a couple of other smaller vehicles are involved in a traffic collision,” said Supervisor Michael Pittman with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “There doesn’t appear to be injuries but there’s a diesel fuel spill and we’re doing clean-up until HazMat arrives.”
