Dozens of Santa Clarita residents joined Mayor Marsha McLean for a “virtual city tour” and ice cream social Saturday at City Hall.
The event was an opportunity for people to learn about what goes on in the city of Santa Clarita as well as what is available to residents in a relaxed atmosphere.
As temperatures reached into the 100s, people were able to enjoy ice cream, provided by King Kone.
“Since it’s such a hot day, ice cream is of course really wonderful in order for people to just come and relax and enjoy themselves in an atmosphere where they can just kind of learn about the city,” said McLean.
The people’s respoIce Cream Social Mayor Marsha McLeannse to the event was very positive, “people who just moved here or people who have been here a really long time said thank you so much because I’ve lived here a long time and I don’t know what’s available to me and much about the city,” said McLean
Daniel Soares, who moved to Santa Clarita one year ago in September after living in Virginia for nine years said he “loved” the event and “thought it was a great idea.”
This is not the first time McLean has put on an event similar to this.
When McLean was the mayor in 2007, “we did a bus tour where people actually got on buses and we drove around and saw the different things. I felt that there probably would be a lot more people this time and it would be much easier for people just to come into City Hall and relax and see the same thing on a video.”
The virtual tour highlighted parks, trails, open space, transportation services, libraries, community centers, sports programs and events.
Santa Clarita residents can email McLean for any concern in the community they may have and she will get it to the right department.
“One of my main things as a councilwoman and also as the mayor, is I want to be able to let people know that we’re a local government that is available to them,” McLean said. “If someone has a problem in their neighborhood, they don’t know which way to turn, this gives them an opportunity to just be able to know exactly who they can contact for help. I always answer all of my emails.”
