A Santa Clarita man is one of five people killed in a mid-air plane crash in San Diego County on Sunday morning.

A twin-engine Sabreliner and a single-engine Cessna 172 collided near Brown Field Municipal Airport around 11 a.m. killing three BAE Systems employees and a contractor working on behalf of BAE Systems, according to a statement from the company.

jeffpercy2The sole occupant of the single-engine plane also died in the crash.

Among those killed was Jeff Percy, a pilot and father to two young girls.

“We lost an amazing man, pilot, husband, father and friend. Jeff (Igor) Percy was flying a mission for his company, BAE Systems, out of Brown field in San Diego when he was involved in a mid-air collision. All four people on his plane and the person in the other aircraft did not survive the collision. Right now, the girls and I are still in shock and coping the best we can,” Janelle Percy said in a Facebook post Monday.

Percy’s service will be at Eternal Valley on Saturday, August 29 at 1 p.m. with a celebration of life later that evening.

jeffpercy1Carlos Palos, James Henry Hale and John Kovach have been identified as two other BAE Systems employees killed in the crash.

Michael A. Copeland was identified as the pilot of the single-engine Cessna 172.

It is still unclear who was the pilot of the twin-engine plane when the two collided.

The company also issued a statement expressing their condolences for the families and stated they will continue to work towards investigating the cause of the crash.

“BAE Systems employees send their thoughts and prayers to the family members and co-workers of those killed. We are committed to supporting investigators as they work to understand how this collision occurred.”
