As the Valley Industry Association prepares for its black-tie VIA Bash next month, the organization is also getting ready to say “thank you” to Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
VIA President and CEO Kathy Norris said a special presentation is planned for Antonovich at the VIA Bash, Sept. 25 at the Hyatt Regency Valencia.
Antonovich, whose ninth and final term as supervisor for the 5th District ends next year, has served the community since being elected in 1980. In addition to Santa Clarita Valley, his district spans nearly 3,000 square miles and includes portions of the Antelope, San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys. Antonovich also recently announced he is running in 2016 for the state Senate seat currently held by Democrat Carol Liu.
“As our county supervisor, he has been a champion for the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County, in addition to advocating for public safety and foster programs,” Norris said. “He played an important role in the development of the Valencia Commerce Center, and has also been instrumental in the preservation of open space and parkland.”
Antonovich was also an impassioned opponent of the minimum wage increase recently approved for unincorporated Los Angeles County.
“VIA represents many businesses in unincorporated county areas,” Norris said, “and we all appreciated that Supervisor Antonovich saw how this increase may prove to be an impediment to business retention, growth and jobs, and was so vocal in opposing it.”
Tickets are still available for the VIA Bash, which honors members of the business community and helps raise funds for the VIA Education Foundation.
The Education Foundation heads up the annual Connecting to Success workforce-readiness program that serves students of the William S. Hart Union High School District.
This year’s Bash theme is “The Magic of VIA” and will include dinner, live magicians and music. Tickets are available for the event by calling the VIA office at (661) 294-8088 or emailing admin@via.org.
