The sensational, genre-crossing jazz-pop orchestra Pink Martini has been added to the 2015-16 Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center season with a one-night-only performance scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2016.
Fresh off another successful Hollywood Bowl performance, Pink Martini will now bring what critics call “a rollicking around-the-world musical adventure” to the PAC.
“We have wanted to bring Pink Martini to perform in Santa Clarita for many years,” said Carmen Dominguez, dean of visual and performing arts at the college. “And with the concert coming just one day after Super Sunday, what better way to ease your Super Bowl hangover than with a Pink Martini?”
The 12-piece band hailing from Portland, Oregon, has earned a reputation for brilliantly blending the genres of classical, jazz, pop and world music — resulting in a lively, multilingual, melodic sound that’s been captivating audiences since the group’s formation in 1994.
Since then, Pink Martini has sold more than 3 million records on its own independent label, Heinz Records, while playing with more than 50 orchestras around the world.
Those concerts have been highlighted by performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl and at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Boston Pops, the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center, the San Francisco Symphony, and the BBC Concert Orchestra at Royal Albert Hall in London.
In 2014, Pink Martini was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame in recognition of the group’s many achievements, which “embody the spirit of the Bowl.”
Pink Martini has released eight studio albums, including its 2014 release “Dream A Little Dream” which features Sofia, Melanie, Amanda and August von Trapp, the great-grandchildren of Captain and Maria von Trapp, made famous by the 1965 classic “The Sound of Music.”
Tickets for the Pink Martini PAC performance are on sale now.
The PAC will also host a pre-concert cocktail and appetizer party — complete with signature pink martinis — at 6 p.m. on the night of the event.
Admission to the pre-concert event will be limited, and does not include a ticket into the concert.
Tickets to both events can be purchased by visiting www.canyonsPAC.com or by calling the PAC Box Office at (661) 362-5304.
