[KHTS] – The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley will be hosting its fourth annual Purple Walk of Strength at College of the Canyons on Saturday, Oct. 17, starting at 9 a.m.
The walk is designed to raise awareness about domestic violence and highlight local resources available to families.
Located in Newhall, the DVC has a number of classes and therapy groups to help men, women and children work to create a healthy relationship environment.
The DVC of SCV believes everyone deserves a life free of violence.
“We work closely with the local schools and other support groups to bring the message to teens through our teen outreach,” said Executive Director Linda Davies.
One in four teens experience teen dating abuse, according to Davies. Abuse can be emotional, sexual or cyberbullying, as partners deal with various levels of power or control issues.
The walk is the signature fundraiser for the DVC of SCV, introducing the community to the services offered.
Besides the walk, the event will feature food, raffles and booths provided by area health vendors.
As for the walk itself, Davies suggests justing bringing an old white shirt that people don’t mind turning purple as they cross the finish line.
Registration for the Purple Walk of Strength can now be completed online [here], with more information also available on the group’s [Facebook page].
