1934 - Bouquet Canyon Reservoir, replacement for ill-fated St. Francis Dam & reservoir, begins to fill with water [story]
Bouquet Reservoir

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station patrol deputies have seen an abundance of occasions where the garage door to a residence has been left open by the homeowner when there is no one in sight. The open garage presents an easy opportunity to anyone driving or walking by to commit theft of items in plain sight, such as bicycles, power tools, golf clubs and other items of value. It takes only a few seconds for someone to enter the garage and take something.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Detective Geoff Elliott recommends the practice of doing a double take when you close your garage door, to make sure that it actually remains shut. Many garage doors have a safety feature that will trigger the door to open again if an object activates the sensor. Detective Elliott also says, “If you’re worried that someone knows the code to open your garage door or your remote has been stolen, it’s time to change to the code on your garage door opener.”

If you see any suspicious vehicles or persons in your neighborhood, get a good description and license plate number and call the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at (661) 255-1121, or dial 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Should you wish to remain anonymous, call “LA Crime Stoppers” by dialing 800-222-TIPS (8477), texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.

I work security and I see this all the time residence leaving the garage door is open.

  2. Joey Olson Joey Olson says:

Really? How bout people just stop stealing… Well, we know that won’t happen. The problem is that there is almost no punishment for theft. Even when caught, there is no reason to stop being a criminal. It’s pathetic!

  3. I’m waiting in my garage 24/7 but no one enters. Guess the word has gotten out about me, lmao

  4. How about people stop being aholes and stop taking what doesn’t belong to them!!

  5. Gary Wanjon Gary Wanjon says:

Yes it’s great and they want gun control!!! Humbug!

  6. Well I was a victim of a home invasion and our wonderful Sheriff’s Department told me that it was not a crime because I didn’t lock my front door, therefore it is alright for anyone to enter my house and assault me by breaking a lamp over my head while I was sleeping…

  7. I live in a gated community and always leave my garage door open.

  8. warren jones says:

Why doesn’t the Sheriffs do open garage door stings? Please catch the people driving around LOOKING TO BREAK-IN! My guess there is no money to be made from that. They have to resort to speed traps to increase revenue.

  10. Craig Daley says:

What the Sheriff says is true I see this all the time where I commute. Its so easy to just lift the door up and enter the house, this is what got me started fixing garage doors in the first place and if anyone has a dented or broken garage door that needs fixing feel free to reach out to me
