The No. 3 ranked College of the Canyons women’s volleyball team was put to the test in a road match vs. Riverside City College, but came away with a big 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 22-25, 25-20) win on Wednesday night.
The Tigers (4-1) were previously undefeated.
Canyons (8-1) was led by freshman Emily Bible who finished with a match-high 16 kills and .268 hitting percentage. The Valencia High School graduate also added 14 digs and two aces to her stat line.
COC sophomore outside hitter Brooke Garelick added 11 kills and a team-high 18 digs while also getting it done from behind the service line with a match-high five aces.
Canyons freshman middle hitter Alexa Hesseldenz also played an offensive role with eight kills and a .267 hitting percentage.
Sophomore setter Katie Rutecki had 33 assists in the match while also adding to the defense with 12 digs.
The Cougars also had a season-high eight total blocks against the Tigers.
Canyons returns to action at 5 p.m. Friday Sept. 18, when the Cougars host No. 23 Moorpark College (2-3) in the Cougar Cage.
